SNMP for domotiga

Postby moltenlead » Fri Oct 29, 2010 12:08 am

First post here so be gentle.

I've spent some (many) hours digging around to find out using Domotiga for my home automation/monitoring setup. Looks to be the tool for me :D however I would also like to extend it. I've just recently spent a few days setting up a zenoss http://community.zenoss.org/ at work to pull back all the network interface and temperature information about several probes on the network.

All this is done using SNMP; which I have noticed is something people in the Homeseer forum have been tinkering with but I couldn't find much for Domotiga. Not to be put off (while I was waiting for my access to this forum to be turned on) I got hold of some of the source code for a network tool written in Gambas and had a look through the code to work out if I could port it across to Domotiga; doesn't look too scary except that all of the comments and quite a few of the variables were in French...as you do.

Before I get told off for coding (instead of fixing the boiler) has anyone had any luck with getting SNMP data into Domotiga. I can supply OiDs for some devices (initially after interface throughput) and I'm happy to test anything sent my way.

NB: I'd love to get coding but I also don't want to tread on toes - what's the "right" way to go about asking for a feature/starting to code a feature. I certainly don't want to upset a dev when this is a very fine piece of work already.

Thanks for reading

Hi,
adding snmp support to domotiga is on my long to do list.
You are refering to gbrrdgraphixs i guess?

Woulde be nice if you can help with suggestions on how to add support, ideas and code.

You can always ask me for help. Don't hesitate to request stuff either.
Regards, Ron.

It was a similar tool; I was looking for sample gambas/snmp code that I could strip and add the key features into Domotiga - I'd love to have a go at some interface stuff after one of my favourite desktop additions (browse.deviantart.com/customization/ski ... 9#/d1ptasn). Not actually using rainmeter but I really like the simplicity (and using your php/xml-rpc) should be easy enough to extend.

For now I'll see if I can get Domotiga to query SNMP; saving the information into RRD will be part 2 :D If you have something simple that I could start with to learn more about the project but will be useful for you as well (something from that long list you said about perhaps :P ) then I'll get to coding.

Thanks for the encouragement - something like this will keep me out of trouble during winter :D
