Today I wanted to measure power consumption of our 10 year old ventilation unit. I used a current clamp to measure current and it ranges between 0.12 and 0.17 Ampere (low and high settings).
Question 1: can I use P = V*I (with V being approximately 230V) to estimate power consumption to be between 27 and 39 Watt? Or is there a Cos phi to take into account? (Note: power consumption includes 2 Xanura SAX modules.)
Still, an Ecofan would probably mean a considerable saving, given a minimum power consumption of 1,6 Watt at the lowest setting.
The current unit is connected using a Perilex plug. I'm not using the mechanical switch anymore, but control it using Homeseer only. As I understand it, there are basically two options for controling the replacement Ecofan unit from a computer:
1) Use 2 Xanura modules and 2 additional relays as discussed here:
topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=804. However: the two Xanura modules and the relays together use more power than the fan itself... (But you may still use your mechanical switch and VIX/IMX10 to control it directly from the kitchen)
2) Use an Ecofan RF switch and solder wires on the contacts. Use computer controlled relays to switch these potential free wires/contacts. (For direct control from the kitchen, you may add another RF switch)
Question 2: for solution 2, did anyone try to connect the RF switch to an IPPower? I guess it would work as the setup is quite similar to RDNZL's Weeder SSR solution. I already have an IPPower running, so this solution would not add to power consumption.
Question 3: as I'm not using direct control from the kitchen anymore, there's no need to get the Perilex version, is there? And vice versa, the Perilex version with the option of wired switching does not prevent the RF solution (nr. 2), does it? (In my case, the Perilex version would be easier to instal, given the fact that the outlet is already in place).
Thanks!
