Bush-Jaeger / Duwi integration

Postby structor » Fri Nov 13, 2009 9:53 am

I am anxiously waiting for the mounting frames that allow Duwi z-wave modules to be placed in Bush-Jaeger switches. A while back ezHome mentioned that is coming soon. But since patience is not my strong side, I have been scaving the net for more information and found:
http://www.zwave4u.com/products/en/Swit ... witch.html

So it is actually available. There is also a press release that Duwi is supposed to make these mounting frames. But on the Duwi website i can not find anything.

My big question is the mounting frames mentioned in the link before are for in wall modules. I can not find anything for the wall controller. Is there anybody out there who knows more then me (about this subject [:D]).

I have money burning in my pocket[:p], but i don't want to replace all my current wall switches.

Bush-Jaeger / Duwi integration

Postby structor » Sun Dec 06, 2009 1:18 pm

Last week I got a bunch of duwi switches, which were intended for the garage. But my wife asked me if i could use me PIR to control the front porch light. So I did. But since the original porch switch is in a 2 switch Bush-Jaeger mounting frame. I had a challenge. The challenge got bigger when i discovered that no null wiring was available. I tried to pull wires through the original tubing, but somewhere I got stuck. After some cursing i found a workable scenario:
1) grab a dremel adapt the duwi 05443 mounting plate so it fits inside the BJ mounting plate
2) keep hold of the dremel adapt the BJ mounting plate so the duwi swich plastic fits.
3) short the switching wire with the phase wire
4) place a duwi switch inside the lighting housing

Ofcourse it's twice as expensive since i have to use both a switch and a 05433 button, but since pulling wires was no option, it was the second best option. The end result is pretty good (if i say so myself), although you have two styles of switches in one frame. I intended to upload a picture, but i found out that this forum does not have an upload area...

For which modules will it be available? Also for the battery operated 05443?

Buying a fitting module will be easier then dremeling for an hour to make a nice snug fit. Ofcourse it will not make you as proud as this hack makes me ;).
