Minimal set to begin with ??

I am looking to using x10 products in my house. Currently I am busy with renovating my house and have easy access to al wires etc.
What do I need to begin with x10. I don't want to buy the hcb because is to expensive and I already have a server pc running.
I want to control the lightning and some outlets and I want to have different behaviour at different times on some switches.

So I think I need some sort of programmer and a couple of saix devices. And some sort of simple control box ?
