NEW RFXCOM USB RFXtrx433 transceiver

Post by Bwired »

All
The new RFXCOm RFXtrx433 tranciever is in the shop
It has a huge list supported devices and best of all a very clear software development kit
I think with this kit it makes it also easier for people without indepth program skills
The RFXtrx433 supports the same sensors and actors as the current RFXCOM receiver and RFXmitter and in addition: LightwaveRF, Siemens, La Crosse, TFA, Mertik Maxitrol fire place.

I think this wil only be an transmitter/reciever and does not support attaching sensors for gas/water/electric ?

RFXmeter is supported, so that should work.

Correct, the RFXtrx433 can receive the RFXMeter.

Due to a high demand a small series of the RFXMeter is in production now. Availability is March 15th. http://www.rfxcom.com/sensors.htm

Does anyone have this transciever yet?
I received it this week, but don't seem to get it working under ubuntu/linux. Seems heyu is not supported yet, and also domotiga isn't very succesful.

How did you manage to get it working with the SDK, can you post an example? I prefer to just have it commandline based instead of apps like domotiga.
I've been trying with xpl-perl as well, but doesn't seem to find the adapter

Im under windows not linux and use vb
Just set up rs232 connection and the packages are coming in.
You can also mail support rfxcom, not sure but i think they have a small tool available to show the packages.

I'm not a Linux expert, maybe this solves your question:
create a link between /dev/ttyACMx and a serial port /dev/ttySx.
[sudo] ln -sf /dev/ttyACM1 /dev/ttyS3

the USB interface has a FTDI FT232R interface chip and driver for Linux are available at http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm

A new DomotiGa version with support for the RFXtrx will be released today (if all goes well, and time permits)
This version will support decoding of all protocols the RFXtrx receives, and transmitting of the most used lighting protocols, others will be added later.

@jeroentje just open port /dev/ttyACM1 at 38400 baud and start the init sequence as documented in the SDK.
I have only a prototype RFXtrx board here which contains a different usb/serial chip than the final version but I guess both should be supported by any kernel newer than 2.6.31, without having to install any drivers.
Regards, Ron.

Hi, /dev/ttyUSB1 is currently connected to the transiever, what does ttyACM1 do?
Does anyone have the SDK? For now I only want to listen to the broadcasts of the oregon temp sensors, and insert it into a rrd db.

Thanks all! very helpful.

I will also checkout the new domotiga once its there.
