FSK Caller ID solution for UPC cable

Post by Mhwlng »

I recently switched from ISDN to UPC/Chello cable telephone (using FSK, not DTMF), which meant that I needed a new solution to handle caller id (before, I used a dynalink ISDN modem) :

I got one of these devices working :

connected to girder via a Sollae RS232->ethernet converter

(girder/netremote then displays the caller name on various displays in my living room and office and mutes the amplifier at an incoming call)

p.s. I tried one of these EX700 devices to convert FSK to DTMF, so that I could see the caller ID on my DECT phone's display :

but that doesn't work for me...
I don't know yet, if the problem is the EX700 or my new PABX...

Before you pull apart your system: UPC had/has a big problem with the callerID system. I got a special letter about it.
Did you also asked the customer service to switch it on? It's off by default so they can get more money from you :-(
I've got a very cheap converter (about 25 euro) that is working wel.

the CTI meteor is working ok, so the callerid is definitely on [:)]
I did have to call UPC to switch it on...

the EX700 was also EUR 25,-

I assume that you are using the same device ?

Where did you buy the CTI meteor? I quit using telephone modems a long time ago and the old one I have lying around somewhere does not support caller-id.

at the link above, in the u.k. (GBP 100,-)

note that it only supports fsk, NOT dtmf (as used by KPN/ADSL etc.)!

FSK Caller ID solution for UPC cable

UPC caller ID only just started working, with my DECT phones
(Siemens gigaset SL370, with various handsets e.g SL37H)
I'm NOT using the EX700 to convert FSK to DTMF, so I don't know if that device works ok now...

I read somewhere, that UPC updated some settings in the cable-modem recently... I didn't reset the cable-modem manually.

(p.s. the cti meteor device was working ok, all the time)
