I'm after a (car) PC (12 volt) that I would like to fit in a 33ft motor boat.
It's needed for some navigation software.
A touch screen need's to be attached to it, so USB is a must!
Anyone here with any experiance with PC's that are running on 12 volt?

Re: (Car) PC (for in boat)
No, but to make your choices a bit broader you can use a 12VDC to 220V AC converter and use maybe more easier available hardware such as a mini laptop.
Those conveters are available at Conrad and from time to time at Aldi/Gamma/Multimate for around 35,-

Re: (Car) PC (for in boat)
The boat does have 230, so a converter is not needed!
I really want a system that is running on 12 volts like they are selling here: http://e2b.org/2a

Re: (Car) PC (for in boat)
Ik have a lot of experience with carpc's. The best you can use a piccos psu power supply that works on 12/24V. As motherboard use a atom powered motherboard, witch use don't much power. The most of my carpc things I buy on http://www.picco.nl, they have a lot of products, also entire systems.
Re: (Car) PC (for in boat)
That looks interesting!
Can you maybe point me in the right direction?
All I need is a 12V system that will run Windows7 reasonably well.
It also needs USB2 and LAN connection(s) (wifi would be nice but it's not a must!)
I do not need a monitor!
I can put everything together myself.
Thanks

Re: (Car) PC (for in boat)
There are a few Mini ITX boards that take 12v directly although I expect you would need to use some sort of regulator on the power supply depending on the stability of your boat's 12v system.
I use one of these http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ ... 800mt.html with an SSD drive for my Homeseer system and it runs W7 reasonably OK for this application. Very low power consumption too.
Is it not possible to use a laptop or nettop for your application?
Paul..

Re: (Car) PC (for in boat)
Thank you all, but I got myself an Intel NUC (Next Unit of Computing) DC3217IYE system.
