Dimming non-dimmable LEDs

Please forgive the ramblings of a newbie.. but As far as I know LED lights are diodes and only function when current passes in one direction. Since the mains supply is alternating current, a diode will only illuminate on the positive or negative excursion. I assume one of two possibilities exist. LE...

Re: DS90: two sensors in one?

Doesn't help. The objective is that both dimmers are wired in parallel. You the wire the pair in series with the load. You should be able to change the brightness locally from either dimmer and turn the load/lights off and on. Oh yes, you can dim them wirelessly too. I think the issue is that one of...

Re: DS90: two sensors in one?

Hmmm - true for control panels, but not so a door/window alarm. I've checked that both alarms report separately so could be used independently when used from a system such as Domotiga. However, I suspect that a security panel might well latch a tamper alarm until its been acknowledged and dealt with.

HomeEasy master/slave dimmers

Hi. some time ago I bought some HE dimmers type He108. I want to use some of them in a 2-way application (upstairs/downstairs) The instruction say I need two types of dimmer, a master and a slave. I assume the he108 is OK as a master but try as I may, I can't find even a part number for a slave let ...

Re: What am I missing???

Absolutely fascinating! Reading your post has been extremely useful. I am just about to place an order for convector rads for the house I'm building. It should be cheap to heat since it has some 200mm of insulation in walls and ceiling. Downstairs is UF heating. As you say, heat rises so my concern ...

Most affordable way to measure power consumption?

Hi. There seem to be a number of commercial devices which can measure how much power your house consumes and display it on a fancy display. I'm not interested in the fancy display, what is cheapest unit I can buy that is supported by domotiga. My preference would be a wireless solution? I'm currentl...

Re: x10 MS13 as a dusk/dawn sensor

Thanks AshiRey for you helpful comments. I realise perfectly how the sensor might work in varying light conditions. What I was trying to do was take in to account some peoples assertion that the "its got dark" or the "its got light" signal might get missed. I've done several sear...

DS90: two sensors in one?

Having bought and played with a cuppla These, I realize the device has two sensors, the regular one that's exposed and the inbuilt tamper detection one. Both report separately. I'd have thought that in most homes, tamper detection wasn't a big deal so wires could attached to the tamper switch for ot...

Re: x10 MS13 as a dusk/dawn sensor

Thanks for this, guys. It sounds as though I shouldn't rely on the dawn/dusk sensor since I might miss signal. Perhaps a winning strategy might be to use computer time of day to tell me when it should be dark but use a sensor to tell me it it gets dark early. I acan extend dawn by switching off the ...

Re: How to control floorheating

Wish I'd read this post earlier when I was trying to decide how to heat my new house. Its been very valuable reading. My design is uf heating by nu-heat downstairs and radiators upstairs - fairly traditional by all accounts. Hot water top up is by solar panels from Grant. I have a raspberry pi at pr...

nu-heat uf heating

Hi. I'm installing Nu-heat underfloor heating. The system has optional touchpad, and net monitor. Has anyone any experience with these and can their functionality be replaced with the likes of Domotiga home automation software. I suspect these add one are just badge engineered versions of generic uf...

x10 MS13 as a dusk/dawn sensor

I have read that the MS13 reports light level as well as motion detection. Is the light level reported as a value I can compare against a datum to decide if its dark enough to be dusk or light enough to be dawn. I need this because the software I use has no idea if the day is dark and overcast so ge...

Solar panel thermometers wanted

I'm building a house with solar panels (rather than PV) and want to monitor the temperature of the fluid entering and leaving the panels together with the temperature of water in the hot water tank. I've decided to standardise on products compatible with the rfxcom USB receiver and software likely t...
