The case of the iPad itself is a metal (aluminium), so my guess is that it won't be to big of a problem then.

I wouldn't go component, HDMI is quality-wise MUCH better. I would also say, when soldering wires, I would advise to just buy a connector; normailly connectors are quite "easy" solderable.
