Ethernet NetworkDesign

Post by WooTz »

Hi All,

I'm currently setting up my new infrastructure for Ethernet. I have separated my guest WiFi from my normal subnet, now im left with the decision for my domotics network.

Option 1 is to include in my normal subnet
Option 2 is to create a seperate subnet and create static routes in my gateway
Option 3 is to enlarge my current subnet mask to still segregate my domotics devices into an own range... this obviously is only cosmetical.

How are you guys dealing with a growing number of devices in your network? In my regulator subnet I have about 40 devices, so there is room left. I just like to seperate based on their nature to keep things clean...

Best Regards,
Martin

I think the best solution is using a separate subnet so you can easily migrate to a closed LAN/VLAN in the future
Running HS3PRO on PC with Z-Wave / OpenTherm / Plugwise / RFXcom / MQTT / XAP400 / Logitech Media Server and Squeezelite on PI`s
