Power saving tips

Post by TANE »

Idea behind this topic is collect power saving tips that you can use in your HA system using automatic events (software based)

My first tip.
When the TV power usage is less the 2 watt switch off the Xtreamer (Media player)

TV usage <2 watt
and
Xtreamer is on (network ping)
Turn off Xtreamer

Saving 10 watt p/h

I use time-outs on lights that often are forgotten (attic, hallway, etc.) to switch them off or dim them to a certain level when no movement in that area or room has been detected for x minutes:
when light is ON and light is on for x minutes then switch off (or dim)

when the alarm is activated (="away"):
- switch off all lights, unless time is "nighttime"
- turn central heating to 15 grC

I don't use the xtreamer for Music.

Some AV power saving options:
Turn off Hifi when TV is on.
Stop Itunes playing when Hifi is off (This will reduce CPU load)
TV to extra powersaving mode (sony)
Settopbox to extra powersavinge mode (Humax 5050C)
Power of Settopbox when TV off (only IR, recordings will work)
