ASUS TOP as Touch Screen

Post by Digit »

Today my Asus TOP was relocated to the livingroom, it's final destiny. Although the software is not finished yet, i don't need it near to me anymore during developing and testing, so to create some more room in my office i decided to mount it on the wall in the living room.

I wanted to mount the Asus to the wall with a minimal gap between wall and Asus. After removing the 4 screws from the stand, i found out that there were 2 M3 female threads available with a distance of 80 mm between them.
For that i bought a M3 thread end and drilled 2 x 6 mm holes through the wall.
The part to which the old stand was screwed to, was sticking out 10 mm from the back of the ASUS. But since i didnt want to make slots in the wall, i decided to glue 10 mm high shock studs on the back of the ASUS so that any pressure resulting from pulling the ASUS towards the wall by the 2 M3 thread ends was divided equally across the whole surface.

So in the end i finshed the mounting by drilling 2 x 6 mm holes and 1 x 15 mm hole (power supply). It feels rock solid, it is attached as close to the wall as possible and the costs were only 4,40.

Here some pictures:

Yes, you're right, i want to keep things simple, not just for myself but for everybody.
And yes there is nothing wrong with your memory, idle power is still 19W.

Asus was my choice if the idle usage was <12 watt
Is there any option to reduce it more
-monitor off
-hd spin down
-system sleep?

19W -> 166KWh per year

@Chak:
Yes, that is 166 kWh/year, based on 24*7*365. But numbers are just numbers and those numbers can't tell this story:
I mean, everybody has to sleep sometime, so 166 will become 125. If we would be at home all the time that we are awake, that is...but that ain't the case either, so another reduction of 1/3 would mean 82 kWh.
And with this touch screen i hope to reduce the need for using the laptop in our livingroom (which is currently rated at 172 kWh/year based on real usage history, using 40W idle (=99% of the time)), to less than 50%. I don't expect the Asus will add much to yearly power usage. I think i'll break even or reduce power usage with it.

Robert, well done, looks good. I am also considering buying an extra white one for my second living room but I will need to hang it on a special mount since it is a solid double wall.

Just for fun a picture of our black Asus top.

Here a random hit: http://asus.hardware.nl/p/ASUS/90-PE0QSP1000Z
Yesterday i searched more sites for the wall mount kit, but you won't find any pictures of the kit.
But it's for sale at lots of webshops, just try google "asus top wall mount"
