What about RFID ?

Post by Digit »

Mogelijkheden, kostenplaatje, ...

"Elvis has left the building" geheel geautomatiseerd te horen krijgen is dan alleen nog maar een kwestie van een beetje programmeren..toch?

Hi Digit,
It's on my ToDo list as well, I like rfid, specially the long range RFid. See also this topic
http://www.domoticaforum.eu/topic.asp?T ... Terms=rfid
http://www.iautomate.com has some interesting RFid devices which are compatible with Homeseer. Long range RFid I want to use for example in the car, to see that you are approaching your home and trigger all kind of events. Short rage RFid for opening secure doors, alarm de- activating, and of course in the near feature for all your products in the fridge and garbage can :-)
I'm thinking about buying something from www.iautomate.com in the near future and experiment with it. What are your thoughts?

Please keep it in English, I know there are some topic in Dutch but those are a split of from a Dutch Homerseer forum. You know topics can go in all directions and sometimes it's interesting to split the topic.
Regards Pieter

I know "Ski-Hut" in Rotterdam once had a test where people had an implant in there arm/hand so they could pay the bill (instead of asking them if/when there too drunk)

Unfortunately I am not a doctor, i'm a veterinarian. I have "tagged" many animals with a chip and was thinking of the same idea. I do not think using a pet chip is a good idea, because the range to read it is very small, on order of cm's. I would propose to start witch a chip in your wallet instead of placing one in your arm. If you insist, i could look if there is a possibility to place one in your arm.

Interesting, kockie...

Could (/would) you tag me? Can you supply tags? Do you know which protocol is being used for these tags? Would it be a wise idea to tag my 15(!) years old Persian cat?

I could tag you (if you won't tell anyone[8D]) I can supply the tags, shouldn't be a problem.. The protocol, I don't know, but http://www.virbac.nl/elektronische_identificatie.htm here you can read what the manufacturer says about it (in dutch)

I say again that de reach of these tags is very poor, just a couple of cm's (with our reader).

It's always wise to tag a cat, especially when it goes out on occasion.

Pet tags seem to use the ISO 11784 and ISO 11785 standard to communicate with a reader. Older tags seem to use a 125kHz carrier, but more modern tags use 134.2kHz. Some tags offer OPT features as well. The standard is told to be Open, but more like in 'OpenTherm' than like in 'Open Source'. And the encryption algorithm to convert the tag data into registration number is still a protected secret. For all of us who want to know more, Mr. Andy Kluck has written a web page full of useful information:

Hi Bwired,
On your weblog of 19 Okt 2007 (RFID in car) http://www.bwired.nl/weblog.asp?id=126
, you show the RFID in your car.
Can you explain more in details. Which reader, tags you use an how its implemented.
The long range RFID is intresting.

May be similar to these . http://stores.ebay.com/Ananiah-Electron ... idZ2QQtZkm . they work with Homeseer and Blade's Rfid plugin.

Anyone of you successfully implemented a RFID access control mechanism?

I currently use a RF transmitter to (un)arm the security system. But since it is a rather bulky device on my key cord, and has some reception issues, I'm looking for IButton-like security at my front- and backdoor. Any advice is welcomed.

Hi Vullisbak (and all other members),

Because more people experience the same problems, I am building an active RF-ID like you described myself.
It will work stable within a range between 100m - 300m and I expect to have it working in January for an interesting low price! (Unfortunately some patience is needed, but then again you get something nice.)
Another member already offered to make the plug-in for Homeseer.
If you have some special requirements, wishes or ideas, perhaps I can implement them also for you.
(An extra advantage when built by the community.)

Keep us posted about that Carlo, lots of members are interested, I'm sure!
Perhaps you can make a new topic in Home automation projects and tell us about the specs etc. perhaps we can help.....
good luck on building the set!
