IRTrans - What do you use it for?

Post by DJF3 »

I wanted to start a topic to collect information on how people use their IRTrans module. It's a great way to get ideas that can be implemented in your own environment.

<ul><li>How does it make your life easier?</li><li>What have you automated using IR?</li><li>Does your wife like it? ;-)</li></ul>

Thanks!

Tv Control,
Hifi control
Blinds
Movie room automation (Home cinema, beamer)

All is done automatic..it's just there.
When leaving the house all the IR devices will turn off when on..

for most TV's you can find the on / off code on the net.
I have also the Harmony
Most of the codes are available in the Harmony DB..just send them to irtrans and you are done.
I'm still searching for the Humax 5050C power off code
The one on Harmony DB is not working

I planned to use it to silence my neighbor's stereo, but now they have kids they seemed to have grown up and reduced their noise production. I suppose I will need it again in 15 years ;-)

You can find IR codes in the IR trans forum:
http://www.irtrans.de/forum/viewforum.php?f=27
I have posted some codes I have learned, but unfortunately it's not really picking up: In the year it is online, only 18 remotes were posted. Though Roomba is available; Probably posted by one of us ;-)

besides the standard usage I want to make some events to be able to record a program on my HDD recorder when I'm not home and forgot to program it,. (e.g. Power on HDD, wait xx seconds, switch to channel 5, record, wait xx minutes, stop record. I can control homeseer with my GSM and start events.

You need the Harmony..the basic version will be okay.
From the harmony software you can select any device +/- 225.000
after selection transfer the remote to the harmony..form the harmony you can send it to the Irtrans

To get back to the Topic:

<ul><li>How does it make your life easier?</li><li>What have you automated using IR?</li><li>Does your wife like it? ;-)</li></ul>

One thing I have programmed: if I turn on my cable decoder, my TV will automatically turn on.

Another example could be: if you turn on your TV after 21:00, your home theatre system will automatically turn on and switch to the correct input..

Would love to hear what you have automated!

Cheers
DJ
