I know this is a bit of an old topic to revive, but there is a solution now to monitor your CatGenie in real time. It's called CartridgeGenius and you can read all about it here: http://www.litterbox-central.com/litter ... c3601.html
This device is basically developed to allow CatGenie owners to refill their cartridges. It replaces the internal RF-ID chip reader and the installation process in completely reversible. When installed, CartridgeGenius fully emulates the RF-ID chip reader and a cartridge chip, to make CatGenie think everything is as it should be.
Especially interesting to people on this forum is that CartridgeGenius has a serial port reporting when the cartridge level has been decreased (=washing cycle started). It also reports the absolute level of the cartridge, so this can be incorporated in a Domotica system, to notify the user when the cartridge needs to be refilled.
