CV control / Opentherm gateway with iPhone app

Post by Evert »

Hi all,

I have created an opentherm gateway that can connect via TCP/IP to a webserver. I also created an iPhone app that connects with this server.
So i now have always and everywhere controll over the thermostat (iSense). Its based on OT V3.

Based on the responce i receive from my friends and family i wonder if there are more interested in this solution.
When this project reaches production phase I will make the protocol public so everybody interested can make the desired modifications. The sever can be a private owned solution or a "cloud" solution. A server based applictation will be available too so there is no hurdle to create you own server if you do not want the cloud solution.
The hardware will be a professional designed and produced PCB, the iPhone app will be avialable in the iTune store within a few months begin of March 2012 would be realistic.
Costs of the PCB depends on the total number of participants, i targeting 40 participants so the costs can be limited to Euro 75,- including all setup costs.

Added 28-12-2011:
To make the project more universal: the system will work with the on/off systems as well, and even Nefit systems can operate that way. The gateway will controll the feeding water temperature, a extra temperature sensor will be added for that purpose. Since the outside temperature is collected from wheater stations the desired feeding water temperature will be determend.
The so called "stooklijn" can be set in the iPhone app.

If interested please let me know.

Regards,

Evert.

Sounds very interesting; based on this first information, I'd say: count me in :)

I was on the phone with Nefit just the other day. They still use their own protocol in stead of opentherm. A Nefit thermostat with some form of remote control through the internet is foreseen for 2012, but as yet just in the brainstorm phase. I'm replacing my current heating setup this spring. Looks like the next one won't be a Nefit then.

Are you aware that you need a license / certification to produce commercial open therm devices - with this forum announcement and the number of devices you wanted to produce you will likely receive a (legal) letter from the open therm organisation either to become a member (means Euro's) or stop the project

I'm not sure if I fully understand how this works.
Does this PCB replace the thermostat (which I expect so send Opentherm commands to control the feeding water temperature), or do I still need an (Opentherm) thermostat?
And if I do not have an iPhone, can I control this PCB by sending commands over TCP/IP (http?) using my own software?

I am interested in this solution.
I currently have a modulating Honeywell Chronotherm that I can swith on/off from my Visonic alarm system, but that only has 1 default temperature that I can switch.
If I can influence the temperature in my house from a computer (which is connected to my phone) that would be nicer.
