Homeseer 100% virtual

Post by TANE »

Hi All,
Few months ago I converted my Homeseer machine to Vmware.
I have done this using the Vmware Converter (freeware)
Benefit of this product is you don't have to reinstall anything.

The only physical connection to Homeseer was the RS232 CTX35.
My Homeseer was running without any problem in Vmware since the conversion.

Yesterday I managed also to make the CTX35 connection virtual.
I have done this using the RFXcom ethernet virtual com.

Now I can run the Homeseer on any machine I like even on my Imac.
Since there is only the IP connection, you can run the Homeseer machine from any location f.i. from your ISP.

Hardware / Software
Host: Windows XP
Vmware Server 1.04

Homseer VM:
Windows XP
Memory 512mb
Harddisk 15 GB
Homeseer 2.066
RFXCom ethernet : Reciver 433 and 868+ RS232, CTX35

Sounds sweet, and I hope that you can help me some time to get this to work on my setup if needed.

I'm going to move to the new house at the end of this month, and setup all the newly ordered Domotica toys as soon as possible.
After this I would like to run Homeseer in a virtual environment (VMware) like you are doing.

I'm not seeing any real difficulties, but if so, I'll give you a ping.

There are few setting in the RFXCom and Windows what you need to modify before CTX35 will work.
most important on is the speed this need to be 19200 in RFXCom and in Windows.
Default of both will not work.
If the CTX35 is directly connected to the Windows there is no need to change any setting also with default of 9600 it will work.

My ISP gives me 1.5TB storage but no way to run windows or vmware.. That would be great though! :)
