I am lurking around on this and other site for a few weeks now. We are busy buying our first house and I am looking for ways to make my home firewall/router/webserver/NAS/torrentdownload machine a bit more useful.

I am thinking of a lot of 1-wire stuff for many things: meter reading, temperature, humidity, light sensing, etc.
I was also wondering if it is possible to read the state of somthing. I would like to use it for sensing a magnatic doorcontact.

Anybody used 1-wire for something like that? I could not find anything sofar.

I use 1-Wire for watermeter reading with the help of a HA7Net.

I also used to have a 1-Wire serial adapter and used the TMEX API to do temperature and gasmeter reading. But that has been replaced by RFXCOM RFXMeter+RFXPulse.

And you should read this.
