What would be a good one-wire sensor that I could use to sense if a door or window has been opened? I see somebody else just recently asked this in a different way but no responses yet.

Thanks for looking/answering.

Mark

Hi Mark,
Welcome to this forum

Why not use a wireless version?
I'm using Visonic MCT 302-T
They are small
Will detect sabotage.
You can also use them for your security system (if you have Visonic)
easy to install
No need for any wire.

Hi Chak,

Thank you for the welcome aboard and suggestion.

Next question is how does the receiver interface into the home automation system? I'm looking at the doors/windows section on the home page at bwired.nl and thought that that would be a neat feature to have.

Any suggestions are always welcome!!

Thank you again Mark

You could use a rfxcom interface with e.g homeseer. (see www.rfxcom.com for further details)

Mark,
Pieter (Bwired) is also using Visonic door/window sensors.

Best solution for HA interface with Visonic and lot of other devices that work with RF is Rfxcom.

Hi Mark,

Be sure to buy the right RFXcom receiver as there are several models and the frequencies used are different in the States than the EU were most of us are based.

If you'd want something cheaper you could do the same with a couple of X10 DS10a's and a 310Mhz RFXcom receiver. X10 is very cheap in the US a 3-pack of DS10a could be yours for 8.56$. A single one of those costs more than 50$ over here!

Some will argue that Visonic is more reliable but I'll leave that discussion in the middle ;) It all depends on what you're planning on doing

Be careful To pick the right Visonic receiver as well if you choose visonic.
And yes I think the Visonic doorsensor is far more superior then the DS sensors.

Hi All
What would be the cheapest way to do this in the UK? I want doors and windows sensored up so I would know if anything was opened/closed by some visual representation on the computer. Please bare in mind I have no knowledge about any sort of HA and would be starting from scratch.

I think it's all above here, the cheap and the less cheap (better) one!

As far as I can tell the MCT-302 of Visonica is also sold as BT door/windows sensors, sometimes cheaper than the Visonic branded...

So basically I want some Visonic sensors (or BT door/windows sensors) and a visonic reciever if available? what about interfacing it with a pc?
