Can I use Homeseer, for example combinated with magnetic doorsensors and pir (kaku) as a complete burglarysystem? An other alarmsystem is not required at all? It would be a difference in the costs.

Yes it's possible. Create an event that after a certain time or by pressing a switch is arming the motion sensors etc. When motion is triggered you can triggers an alarm bell or send an SMS or whatever.
But it's not a very handy and reliable system :-)

It is better to use X10 or Visonic security sensors.
These sensors transmit alive signals to indicate that the sensor is operational. The KAKU sensors don't transmit an alive and a battery empty or sensor malfunction is not detected then.

The RFXCOM plug-in has an alarm panel build in. See chapter 6.4 http://www.rfxcom.com/documents/hspi_RFXCOM.pdf

reliability is a condition so thats no option. I was intent to order a number of magnetic doorsensors and Pir's of Kaku. these items are cheap but I presume there is no support from any securitysystem?

@Ren: IMO that's not the way to go. If you really need an alarm system, buy a real one. Bert already gave some solid reasons why.
I bought Visonic sensors from the start, PIR and door sensors, with (eventually) an additional alarm system in mind.
Ok, Visonic sensors are more expensive, but eventually you'll be better off.

Ok, I will have to use my Icesave account to spent more. Choosing between a great number of internetshops.. which one is the most low-priced? I presume you and other members have more experiences with it.

Normally i buy Visonic sensors at www.waakzaamwonen.nl. I honestly don't know if this is the cheapest webshop, but experience is always good. Bought my PowerMax+ and accessories there too.
And i keep an eye on www.marktplaats.nl for bargains within reasonable driving range. And ebay.

Other option is to build your own alarm system using visonic pirs and homeseer.
There are few good plugins for this like the Rfxcom one.

Although a separate alarm system will probably be more reliable since it's a dedicated system. If you have have a reliable server, I believe even an alarm system with Homeseer can add quite some 'security' to your home, if you have a UPS and the server isn't next to the front door. (because of the system being unconventional and the element of 'surprise')

If you can't splash cash on everything at once start getting Visonic stuff anyway and add a Powermax Pro or the likes later on.

These two shops are the cheapest for Visonic I know of. (no experience with buying from them yet though) Depending on what item you want one or the other is cheaper:

I also have the Visonic 868MHz sensors. I use Homeseer and the RFXCom hardware / plug-in and also a Powermax+ panel with GSM communicator in case the Homeseer PC is down.

I notice that with the Visonic sensors there are some quite large price differences between UK suppliers and between NL and UK suppliers.

For example:
http://www.powermaxcentrum.com/catalog/ ... 2c6fd9c08e

and

http://www.quick2fit.co.uk/module/page- ... ategory-23

or

http://www.powermaxcentrum.com/catalog/ ... 2c6fd9c08e

and

http://www.securitywarehouse.co.uk/cata ... ts_id=1744

or

http://www.powermaxcentrum.com/catalog/ ... 2c6fd9c08e

and

http://www.gx-security.co.uk/powermax-8 ... -1787.html

Based on exchange of 1 GBP = 1.2 Euro, the Powermax+ panel, MCT234 remote and the Clip MCW are almost half the price here in the UK but the GSM communicator is quite a bit cheaper in NL.

I know the VAT is 1.5% more in NL than UK but still it seems that most of the Visonic items are quite a bit cheaper in the UK.

I had a similar experience the other day with a friend in Spain who wanted a cent-a-meter unit and was quoted about 120 Euro when here in the UK it is less than 60 Euro.

I hope I made the right decision to first ordering these items
1x Powermax Plus kit (with keyfob)
1x PIR Next K9-85
6x MCT302T Magnetic door/window sensors
I changed my mind to choose for security of my home because of the great number of burglarys in the area. Thiefs have need for money and juwelry here. In this time of year we must be alert for our properties!

My business premises have been the target of thieves on many occasions in the past and my view on the effectivness of security systems at preventing this is not good.

Security systems (including CCTV) do not stop the theives breaking in and getting your stuff but at least you will know about it when they do[:(]

Paul, I know that you cant stop a thief if he wants to enter your home, but you can make it difficult as possible for them. They hate it because the are always in a hurry. With the great numbers of burglaries we (my family also) hope we will be more relaxed then before when my home is secured. By the way, Its not a domotica talk but a secustrip for each door is also very effective. http://www.secuproducts.nl/asp/get.asp? ... t=00000152

Rene,

Perhaps I was being a bit negative with my other post. I know that a thief will perhaps walk on past a secure looking property to one that looks a little easier. Indeed I have CCTV, Visonic and RFXCom etc at my house and I suppose it does make you feel more secure. My two 40kg dogs also help in this department.

My type of business (lots of power tools and other high-value stuff) seems to attract the wrong sort of customer. Those that call when we are closed and help themselves.

It is a modern brick building and I have spent an absolute fortune over the years on security. Most of this has been on physical securing of access to the building but we also have a high end monitored alarm and CCTV system.

The problem has been that the theives gain access to the building, haul a van load of gear and are gone in less than 2 minutes. They know just how long it takes for the monitoring station to alert the police and for the police to eventually get there.

I don't have the photo's to hand (they must be on my other PC) but the last time they gained entry they didn't bother with the heavily fortified doors but cut a 2 metre square hole through both brick skins of the building. Once inside the alarm was triggered but they managed to load a large van and were gone in 1 min 28 secs.

The CCTV was useless because the van was stolen and had the wrong license plates displayed and the 2 culprits were well covered so they could not be identified.

On a lighter note, my comment to the police was "I wish I could get my employees to load vans as fast as that".
