I replaced my 2 existing 8 ports Gigabit switches with 2 D-link DGS-1008D, 8 Port Gigabit GREEN Ethernet Switches.
These switches are very low on energy usage, 2 swicthes 8 ports Gigabit (total 16) are together consumimg only 7 watt,
resulting again in a 11 watt reduction per hour and that 24/7 because the switches are always on. Not so much but it helps [:)]

Green Ethernet Features D-Link's Green Ethernet implements special power-saving features that detect link status and cable length and adjust power usage accordingly. If there is no cable link or link partners turn off, Green Ethernet will put that port in a "sleep mode," reducing power used for that port and saving energy. Green Ethernet detects Ethernet cable length and adjusts power usage to save energy. This way, a port connected to a 20 meter cable only uses as much power as it needs, instead of using full power, which is only needed for 100 meter cables. Green Ethernet Benefits If PCs connected to the switch are turned off, D-Link's Green Ethernet can save up to 85.65%* power used for each system. If cable length is less than 20 meters, D-Link's Green Ethernet can save up to 9.3%* power used for each system. In a standard workday scenario where PCs are used for 10 hours a day and powered off 14 hours a day, and connected to the switch using 20 meter cables, D-Link's Green Ethernet can save up to 44%* power used for each system.

I bought these switches on www.inmac.nl No shipping cost if you apply for the newsletter.

I was thinking to replace my Asus 8 port gigabit switch for a green one.
after some measurement I found out that this is also a bit green..:)
the power consumption is 4,1 watt
All the 8 ports are in use and few of them are gigabit.

Please note that the Amazon.com reviews that the Tweakers.net story refers to concerns the old non-"Green Ethernet" version. D-Link unfortunately decided to use the same model number for both devices. In my experience, the "Green Ethernet" version works well (3 devices in use, both 5 and 8 port versions).

Hi Ruud,

No, they look very different; that's why the same model number is so confusing. It's so confusing that even D-Link is showing the wrong pictures on their products pages... You might end up getting the wrong version when ordering just the D-Link DGS-1008D.

Pay attention to the EAN number. For the 5-port version, it is EAN 790069252686. For the 8-port version, it is EAN 790069252747. www.4launch.nl and www.komplett.nl are selling the right version, in case you are interested.
