Forum trouble?

Post by Bastiaan »

For the last few days I have some trouble accessing the forum domain. It happens now and then but last more then a few seconds, sometimes minutes or even longer.
Pieter do you know about any problems, am I the only one? If so I might have to talk to my DNS server.... :D

Yes, no complains about the speed but this morning I could not get in through the RSS feeds links.
Then opened the main page and it still takes a while before it opens. It doesn't give an error screen, it just keeps loading for a long time, ending with a blank screen or, (like this time) popping up the site after a minute or so.
Next time I will do some pings/traces to see where it gets stuck.

i thought that the database was shared, so if its doing too much or has maintenance on it whatever.. you never know what screen you get.

Still think the overall speed could use a bump..

The error from Noel was familiar to me and it was corrected again by the provider this week.
I will check the RSS thing, if this is stable.
Forum to me is acceptable now, I can only get better speeds if I change to a LINUX server.
For a Windows 2008 server (Nitroserve) I think this the best we can do :-)

Pieter, that could be in interesting discussion if LINUX would be a faster platform for DBses.....

Anyway on topic:
I agree that the forum is running fine. Speeds are OK. The RSS feeds do redirects, it might be there that it 'gets lost' sometimes. But If I have the trouble, I always also test a direct link to the main index in a browser.
I have seen the SQL error a few times this week but the error I see is a blank screen or no connection at all.
I will make note of the times, making LOG checking an option.
Murphies law also seems to rule, since I made the comment, everything works fine :-)

Ok Thanks, your findings this week where right, I saw them too.
Linux I guess is a bit faster for this forum PHP and MYSQL (no Microsoft products)

I dont think windows and linux matter that much, but i just notice the initial click takes some time to respond (not long) but not short either. (i host www.lethal-zone.eu for instance, if you click around that forum which is phpbb on linux, you will notice a quicker response time when just opening up topics for instance) but hey, i dont think most here will notice the difference, like i said the forum here is just fine. (i am the type of person that in the old days would notice that i have a virus by the time it took to start stuff up)
