I'm not realy satisfied about Homeseer

Post by freakstar »

Is this an problem of my configuration, or are there other things?

I have configured the following:
- Aeon Labs Z-Stick
- Everspring AN158 wall-switch
- EZmotion 3-in-1 sensor
- Simple Win7 computer with Homeseer trial

Made a little setup in my utility room, the room where i enter my house normaly. Placed the sensor above an door, plugged some lights in the wall-switch and configured Homeseer:

First days it looked perfect, lights were switching on when i came home or when i came in the utility room, and when i peeked after some time lights were switched out again.
After a couple of days it is working not so well anymore, most of the time i come home (in nighttime) the lights aren't switched on, but occasionaly they are and then they aren't switching of.

Is my configuration wrong? Is Homeseer not so perfect?

Hi,

When you look in your log overview (online or by using the viewer in the software) see you maybe a error or something when the event is running?
Grtz,

Indeed, you have to check if it is HS or Z-Wave related.

Some additional tips:
- check the battery status of the battery operated devices
- check your z-wave network:
- Goto the Homeseer web interface; Setup / Interfaces.
- Click node-info
- Check the neighbor status of all devices. Neighbor status should preferably be Excellent. In my set-up I have 1 device with status "Acceptable", and also this one does not miss a message.
- Go back to the previous screen
- Click Manage
- Click Optimize Network (please note that battery operated devices are sleeping, and their route table will not be updated. If you remove and insert the battery they will stay awake for some minutes. In this period you need to execute the "Optimize Network".
- ... and execute the previous steps again to see if things are improved.

Regards,

From my own experience.
Isn't there a large metal door or sliding mirror between the transmitter and reciever..

After these replies, i think it is indeed an Z-Wave problem. I'll be moving my Homeseer computer today to a more central place in the house and hope it helps! :D

Well Z-wave has a mesh network. Components that has the router option within routes the signal to the destination. So adding more z-wave switches onroute, will result in a better quality zwave network. So moving te coordinator is an option, but maybe you will not be happy to place the pc somewhere you didn't want it to be in the first place.

Use a USB network hub like the Belkin one. This makes it possible to locate the ZWave interface in a central place and leave your server, running Homeseer, where it is.
