Rfxcom via usb hub

Post by Screamhouse »

I'm working with a vera lite, which already has the usb port in use due to a smart meter usb cable. Im interested in a Rfxcom. I know you can use a usb hub with the vera, but since i only can configure one usb port on the vera, would it work to have a rfxcom receiver and a smart meter cabel via a usb hub?

I suppose the VERA follows the USB standard and it should be possible to connect more USB devices using an USB hub.
The FTDI driver will assign a COM port.

Contact RFXCOM sales to see if a try&buy option is available.

I now see the serial port config is different. The smart meter cable needs 9600 baud and the rfxcom 38400.

Each USB port can have a different usage, including a different baud rate.

repeated message: I suppose the VERA follows the USB standard and it should be possible to connect more USB devices using an USB hub.
The FTDI driver will assign a COM port.

The function of an USB hub is to extend the number of USB ports.
Use a powered USB hub. Do not use an USB hub powered by the VERA because the VERA is not able to power a lot of USB devices like RFXtrx433 and the smart meter.

Yup and I can confirm it works for me but I have both a P1 serial and a RFXtrx433 connected to a Linux box via a USB-hub, I'm pretty sure the Vera is probably some sort of Linux appliance itself though. linuxjournal.com/magazine/control-your- ... casa-verde so yes it should work fine.
Kind Regards,
Greg.

The Vera is Linux for sure, they even state so on the website.

Source code is also available for the linux distribution they are running (openWRT)
