Receive Oregon Scientific BWR102

Post by marck »

I have some issues to get a reliable connection between the scale and the RFXtrx433 USB 433.92MHz Transceiver. I have been able to receive a few random measurements, but since a few days it stopped working completely.

The transceiver can without any problems communicate with other devices:

4/20/2013 9:12:58 PM= 08500A08B601005459
Packettype = TEMP
subtype = TEMP10 - TFA 30.3133
Sequence nbr = 8
ID = 46593
Temperature = 8.4 °C
Signal level = 5
Battery = OK
------------------------------------------------
4/20/2013 9:50:47 PM= 0710000843010150
Packettype = Lighting1
subtype = X10
Sequence nbr = 8
housecode = C
unitcode = 1
Command = On
Signal level = 5

The wireless connection between the scale and the remote unit works as expected.

The problem is certainly not related to distance, since both the scale and the transceiver a positioned next to each other.

What can be wrong, with my config?

Hi.

I have given up on my scale. There must be some kind of error, it keeps changing address as if I changed the batteries. Hence I have to find the new address almost every time, I want measurements in Homeseer.

My guess is your scale is on a new address.

Put some foam on the batteries so that they are fixed.

Hi,

I did put some paper between the batteries and the closing cap and it seems more reliable.

4/22/2013 10:36:21 PM= 085D01030006006E70
Packettype = WEIGHT
subtype = BWR102
Sequence nbr = 3
ID = 6
Weight = 11 kg
Signal level = 7
------------------------------------------------
4/22/2013 10:39:40 PM= 085D0103000600CF70
Packettype = WEIGHT
subtype = BWR102
Sequence nbr = 3
ID = 6
Weight = 20.7 kg
Signal level = 7
------------------------------------------------
4/22/2013 10:40:26 PM= 085D01030006004070
Packettype = WEIGHT
subtype = BWR102
Sequence nbr = 3
ID = 6
Weight = 6.4 kg
Signal level = 7
------------------------------------------------
4/22/2013 10:46:32 PM= 085D01030006003670
Packettype = WEIGHT
subtype = BWR102
Sequence nbr = 3
ID = 6
Weight = 5.4 kg
Signal level = 7

But the problem remains that out of the 10+ trials only a few are received by the transceiver (see above). Anyone additional insight?

Is the data always received on the BWR102 display unit if placed at the same location as the RFXtrx433?
Is the BWR102 better received if only the Oregon protocol is enabled in the RFXtrx433?

Hi Bert,

I bought another BWR102 via this forum, this time a brand new scale. Now the measurements are received immediately and reliable. So apparently the problem was caused by the scale.

Problem solved!!
