take a look at our little project at http://www.xtrusion.nl

at the moment we have several devices in and around the house connected to our home-made domotica system

protocols in use:
- Z-Wave (Powermeters/switches)
- RFXTRX433 (oregon, klikaanklikuit, elro)
- Plugwise (Powermeters/switches)
- 1-Wire Bus

data is stored in a database and displayed "semi-realtime" at the website

Fine result!

You report presence using WiFi.
How do you detect the WiFi signal from the mobile devices?

Missed some technical details of your domotica software on the site...

Wifi Presence is done by making an fixed IP address for the phone
in the main router i configured per phone/computer an fixed IP adress in the dhcp scope (based on the mac address)

our domotica client is doing a single ping to each device every 2 secs. to prevent false positives i added an beacon counter per device
if there where 25 missed pings after each other the system will set the device to "out of home" after an other 25 good ping replies it
will turn it back to "available"

i must say it works pretty stable, as one minute after i leave for work it will set my device offline

one problem was each device should have wifi enabled as soon as they come near the house (this is done by an android app to switch on wifi based on cell-tower id location) so if 'm in reach of tower x and y signal it will auto turn on my wifi and connect to home

Creative solution you have.

So if the phones' WiFi is always on, it does not connect to your private network if in range?

Thanks for sharing!

There are a lot of solutions to choose from. Got the components and finally got something online.
See it at: http://home.roelfloor.nl and read about it at (in dutch, though): http://www.roelfloor.nl
What components did you use ?
HomeSeer - PlugWise - RFXComm - Philips Pronto TSU9800/9600/9300

And can you unblock my "Who has a realtime website" topic? I know it wasn't working for a little while due to a relocation of my server, but i didnt have time to straighten this out before u removed the toipic.
