TSU9600 vs iPod Touch

Sometimes it's hard to choose...
Which one will win? They both have their pros and cons...

The iPod arrived today, so i guess i'll first let the wow-factor cool down a bit before i can really decide...or keep both...hmmm, sweet dreams ;-)

Tsu96000
pros: fully customize the layout in a breeze.
pros: quick response with the menu's
pros: hard buttons
pros: has infrared on the device itself
cons: fairly big
cons: can be fitted with a rfx9400 / rfx9600 to control from any place in the house.
cons: you need to design and build a complete menu which is time consuming (only in the beginning)
cons: price is heavy!

Itouch:
pros: small footprint (smaller then the tsu9600
pros: i assume a longer battery life then the tsu9600
pros: can be adapted to use an allready "mobile" webpage.
pros: price is cheap
cons: closed source (unless hacked) and only the browser allows for a interface.
cons: no infrared on the device itself (correct me if wrong)
cons: no nice cradle.. (depends what you like)
cons: no hard buttons

dont know about the wifi, but the tsu only has WEP.
Just my 2 cents which i can think off.

My main reason for the tsu9600 would be that i can control everything with a breeze. As where the itouch is nice but you cant "zap" without looking at the screen. I try to use as many real keys on the tsu9600 which makes it really easy.

Here's my list for now:

Tsu96000
pros: hard buttons
pros: has infrared on the device itself
cons: layout customizable, yet more complex then creating a web page.
cons: WEP
cons: price is high.

Itouch:
pros: smaller, you can keep it in one hand and control everything with your thumb.
pros: has Safari on board
pros: cheaper
cons: seems a little bit slower (but need more testing; just a first feeling)
cons: no infrared on the device itself (you're right)
cons: cradle for charging needs to be bought separately (another 50 EUR)
cons: no hard buttons

Main reason to try the iPod was because i wasn't that pleased with designing the screens for the TUS9600. With (for example) Visual Web Developer i think i'm able to create something equal to a Pronto screen in a fraction of the time spent.

@chak:

About the response: it's really not bad... but i'll try to find some time the next day(s) and make a small movie/demonstration, so you can watch it yourself. I created a small aspx page just for testing, and it looks very good till now. Don't know what happens when i start adding images, backgrounds and all those things...
Haven't tried browsing the Internet yet.

HI Guys,
Nice topic going on!
I have bought the Touch on my trip to India. And I'm browsing here with my safari browser wireless all around the hotel. The hotel has very good wireless. But wow the Touch is really browsing fast and efficient. Handling the safari browser zooming in and out is really cool and very handy. I'm controlling and viewing the Bwired site on the touch and have no problems even I'm in India[:D] all my college IT dudes like the device also. Apple did a really good job on this. Starting the touch is with 1 second. Haven't found the time yet to make a special page for my domotica system, but I will do this next week for sure.

if you go for the iphone 16gb, doesn't it going to be with 3g? And you can use imap with a web and walk, for a sort of push (work on my nokia e65) still i have to agree that the itouch looks really sharp and smooth. But its not a "remote" replacer...

I think , i think, i think.. i need both :)

Note that that iPhone doesn't have Wifi. The iPod Touch does WEP,WPA,WPA2.
You might have to find a way for your website to open a new window without the safari toolbar (like opening a new window in IE that doesn't have all of the toolbars?). That way you will only see the website content.

One more thing: is it possible to auto-start safari when you turn on the iPod Touch? Or does it show the browser if that was the last screen before it died?

Hi,

what about the TSU9400? It has (almost) all the features of the TSU9600 but is smaller.
