more sticks in one program on one computer

Post by labium »

is it possible to use more sticks in one plugwise network, this becomes possible with the usb to lan converters , as has been speaking of on the hardware forum.

it saves one computer online, and it saves the powerconsumtion which plugwise is ment for.

Every network has 1 stick, but as u mean that u have 2 networks in 1 pc, that should work.

one Plugwise program (Source) can handle more networks but only if you have a Pro License, or have an pro update for you current license.
Networks means unic combination of stick, C+ and C's.
The pro license can be purchased at Plugwise (send an email to helpdesk@plugwise.com).
After you purchased the license, you current license will be automatically updated (by clicking "update" in the Source.

Why have 2 sets in the first place?
Just reset the secound set and add them to the first one.
Only thing u have left then is a usb stick and a circle + u cant use.

Ok, I think I understand.
You are or in the first location, or the second? Not on 2 locations at the same time I think.

Maybe better to use is the Backup & Restore functionality.

Create one stick and C+ network, configure the Source with that network, and make a backup file and store that.
uninstall the Source.
Do the same thing at the second location, and viola.

If you are in location one, restore the backup file from one.
If you are in location two, restore backup file two.

Before restoring, it's better to backup the other location, so you have always the most up-to-date backup. Otherwise you might have older schedules, or the Source takes a long time to retrieve all the log usages from the plugs again.

I think this is the best (cheapest) solution??

i want to control and monitor the 2 locations at the same time on one computer in one program.

i bought a secondhand anywhereusb5 /1 ( i got the idea from the belkin usb lan discussion alswhere on this forum) on the dutch marktplaats.nl and the stick from plugwise works perfectly on it in a local network, so with the right natting it should work via the internet.

Ok, new for me. I'm afraid for the timings.... In a lan ok, but over internet... I doubt it.
USB needs continuously contact, and by internet you get loses, so the connect can be lost.
Besides this, usb needs high data transfer, and also this could be a problem.
But never less, I am curious.

I could add the option to the Homeseer plugin to monitor two instances of the Source software. In that case you would run two autonomous instances of the Plugwise software each managing their own network, however you can monitor and control devices in both networks using Homeseer.

i had contact with sales of plugwise, they are contemplating what to do with a request for 2 sticks in one source. this need of a customer is new for them.

i think there are more customers with more locations they want to manage, all the people with a vacation location par example. and there are more customers who want to control their plugs from a distance.

i think it would be marketing wise to make small 2 , 3 etc licenses.

it can then be completely integrated in other home domesticationsystems which can provide more locations like homeseer with rfxlan.

the pro series is more for business uses up to 20 sticks and has a monitor function of the source itself.

the usb over wan is no problem the sticks need 20kb connection speed that is 1 % of the upload peed of a 20mb download 2 mb upload speed
