According to Bright (here in dutch) it has a new nickName: iLetDown. Or even iCunt (pardon my french). It doesn't do multitasking (so no listening to music while doing other things like checking domoticaforum ;)), no webcam, no full HD, no flash, no sub and the virtual keyboard apparently works a bit awkward at the iPad size. And the list goes on.

More articles about the 'iLetDown':

It seems they are working on some of the issues, like flash support, which might become available in a next version/generation.

Of course, it might still be a cool gadget and an excellent HA control device. Depedending on what else you want to do with it, it may be an iPerfect or an iWasteOfMoney...

Well to me apple did a great job on the buzz, but a less one on the hardware.

I mean wireless hd, and something like ir would make it a perfect machine for on the couch and a addition to many homes.
I mean it got the looks, thats for sure....

apple: capacitive touchscreen, slicker looks, thinner.. more "wallmount" niceness.
archos: no o.s. restrictions, more buttons, webcam, comes with a "stand" 60gb (you pay big for that on ipad)

archos is very nice too, but i wanted capactive touchscreen and a slick look.. so apple it is.

tane, you can add more :)

well yes, but for use as a wall screen for hstouch .. its prrrrrity :) i mean i only compare it to those kinds of things because we are the domotica forum after all.. talking about touchscreens usually ends up on the wall... :)

My post is lost I have posted this noon...:(

I will go for the Ipad and not for the Archos 9
Ipad is a real touch screen not a push screen.
Iphone and Ipad are fast, Windows 7 is slow in startup wakup and usage.
No spinning parts in the Ipad
long battery life (30 days)
You can use the Ipad as Ipronto/pronto
thinner
No heat of CPU or disk
great remote for Itunes
auto orientation.

True, even worse, there is nothing of that all inside the iPad. If you want to use USB then you need an adapter. DvD player? yet another adapter. If you take a regulair laptop and remove all their guts then you could say also 'Hey, look how slim this one is..'
long battery life (30 days)
10h while watching a movie.

Touch vs push indeed. The 'touch'-screen on my HTC mobile sometimes feels like a push-screen or even a push-all-you-like-screen . I think that's the reason the TouchFlo 3D interface isn't really working for me. It's ok for the most part, but not ok when it really counts. And it can be really annoying or frustrating when it doesn't work properly! With years of Windows Mobile behind me, I might just get an iPhone next time. Or find a Windows Mobile phone with a decent TOUCH-screen .

For the iPad, I think it will do nicely for me. I'm not going to watch movies on it, although I'd like to keep the option open ;). I want to be able to browse and select movies, music and the like, then select the location where it should show/sound. And of course control lighting, heating and view overall system status. So for a HA remote with a big screen and real touch UI it sounds like a very good solution. It simply isn't a laptop replacement.

iPad Flashless Wonder

Post by roscoe »

As usual we have Apple wonderness and desirability.
As usual we have Apple lockdown and still no Adobe Flash support in the useless browser.
Could have been an interesting client option, but gets the thumbs down from me !
grrrrrr

see my blog post rant at http://wp.me/pHmJS-fo

Any other thoughts ?

I'm an Apple enthusiast, but I think the iPad is a big disappointment. The closed OS keeps me from buying it. If it were running a (light) version of OSX on which I could install my own software, I would have bought maybe even 2 or 3 of these...
Now I have to wait for my favorite software developers to make an iPad version of their software, because all the iPhone versions are stripped down software packages (functionality). So this just makes it a huge iPhone and nothing more.

Pro's:
- battery life
- design

Hopefully I'll get the answer of the JooJoo company to tell me their platform is going to be open (Linux based), if so...the JooJoo it is!

That is the only way of running the HST client. You need the iphone client. I wonder how it´s gonna look on this big screen with a different resolution!
