Home automation Server. What to choose?

Post by miuri »

Hi to everyone.
i'm looking for a device that allows me to supervise my home. It will be "at wall".
The basic requirements i need are:
  • - VERY LOW POWER COMSUMPTION
    - VERY FAST RESPONSE TIME AFTER STAND-BY MODE (the device will be always on)
    - TOUCH SCREEN
    - ethernet link
    - usb/serial link
    - battery (as "electrical continuity" in case of black-out)
    - Fully programmable OS.
Any idea or previous experience?
Kind of solution:
  • 1- TABLET PC, something like ASUS Eee Top ET1602 or whatelse better?
    2- A COMPOSED SOLUTION,
    - a Network Access Server (NAS) linked with a touch screen..
    - An assembled mini-pc (as the ATOM D5010) linked with a touck screen
Other solutions or suggestions? Product names?

Thank you very much. Bye

Which software will you use? At least a ALL-IN-ONE touchscreen with ION2 from Asus, HP, or else (19-21") with a UPS

I'll need to code a Gateway for supervisioning an alarm system (MyHome BTicino via OpenWebNet protocol). A Java VM need to be supported.

That's good with enough power,

MSI AE2020
20"Multitouch T4500 2GB 320GB, Geforce9300 256M,DVD±,CAM,WLAN
HDMI Keyboard, Mouse,Black,W7P

if you need low power usage, then go for ION2 + atom , or wait for next coming low power intel cpu (15-20 watt)

I thought a bit about and i think that probably the best deployment solution is to use a very low power server with a separate "at wall" touch screen. The server could act also as webserver and so could be accessed also via internet (without its touch screen).
In this way i managed to reduce consumption (and also hw cost). PRO/CONTRO?

About this solution i noticed this hardware: http://www.fit-pc.com/web/ but i haven't found yet a good touch screen (it's very important the stand-by response time...) Any product suggestions?

390 euro or 490 euro

The link is probably offline.

Anyway, it looks good but i didn't found the Watt power compumtion neither in the product specification of zotac's website.
The touch screen is very good-looking but i think a 23" is too much power-consuming...

About power i think you can ask directly to Zotac. I've found this

minimal amounts of power for energy-efficient computing with the ZOTAC® ZBOX Blu-ray

http://hothardware.com/News/ZOTAC-Intro ... ay-Drives/

but nothing more.

Monitor: yeah 23" is 23" :) , maximal consume 56watt , typical 47watt
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02177416.pdf (PAGE 39)

if you take a 3M , 15" it will use < 30 watt
http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/e ... s/M1500SS/

on Ebay you can find tons of 15" with (perhaps) lower elec. usage
