Popp Zwave Sun Blind Control

Post by TANE »

As promised a short note about the Popp Sun blind Control.

Popp's approach is a bit different than other controls.
It can control any blind / screen of any voltage.

Device can be build in as hidden device or as a normal switch.
You can remove the upper part.
It's not possible to use other switches than the popp's own.

No intent to push you, but what's your verdict so far about this control?

Can it report its status? According to Z-wave specs all controls should be able to do so, but I can't find conclusive evidence on the net that this unit does so as well.

I'm about to equip my new home with some home automation devices (first home automation project ever, so will be needing some advice). Since Eaton has stopped producing Xanura products and X-10 blind controls lack 2-way communication, I wonder if Z-wave is the technology to start with. I like the single unit design.

It does report its status like a dimmer (if you stop before the end).

yep, but the button does feel fragile, because of the way it is connected to the module. Also if you look at the pictures Chak has places in it's first post of this topic. The first photo is the module, which is of plastic. On the second picture the gray stuff you'll have to click on the module. This one is also of plastic. If you srew this plastic to your "inbouwdoos" you'll have to be carefully with this, because of the plastic. Screw it to tight, it will go through the plastic.

I might go for the Merten stuff, maybe more expensive but I do expect quality from a company like them.

Does this unit fit in 'regular' mounting frames? Or do I need to use a custom frame?
I don't like the idea of have two different frames next to each other...

@vullisbak: do you mean this kind of products: http://www.ezhome.nl/index.php?main_pag ... cts_id=230
or the "inbouwdoos" ?

@chak: thanks, that's a good thing
@mgizmo: I meant the 'afdekraam', not the 'inbouwdoos'
