It seems possible to buy your own Z-wave chips

Came across this wholesaler in the US who sells European/868 MHz chips for about USD 10 per piece. Minimum quantity = 1.

No idea if you would need the development kit, but this wholesaler sells this too:

Maybe of interest for those hardcore electronic enthusiasts to build your own z-wave devices?
