Which USB static controller?

Post by eggn1n3 »

Hi,

I am thinking about buying an USB Z-wave controller. The plan is to use it with a Raspberry Pi and OpenHab.
There seem two devices on the market that look interesting:

Aeon Labs USB-Z stick S2 (around 50 euro)
ZME USB Zstick-C (Around 40 euro)

Both sticks support SDK 4.54. The ZME also supports SDK 5.0.

Is there someone who has experience with one of these sticks? Which one would I buy?
Problem I found so far is that the websites of both Aeon Labs and ZME do not provide a lot of info (ZME has some info).

Thanks!

If you are using a Raspberry you can also have a look at the Razberry board.

With a ZME version you can also restore your configuration. (When supported by your software)

I am considering buying a Z Wave USB Controller, too. I agree with you that the AEON page doesn't provide much information as opposed to the Z Wave.me one. Have you bought one already? I am a guy who gets easily blended by a nice webpage and the AEON Z-Stick page looks much more professional :) Anyone else can recommend one of the two?

Sorry for bumping an old post.

I'm running Homeseer 3 in a virtual Windows 7 machine (ESXi). but lately the controller just freezes. I have to unplug the usb device from the Host and reseat it.
A reset from within the software doesn't make a difference.

So now i'm thinking about purchasing a new PC controller.
Most shops sell these;

- Z-Wave USB Stick (Zwave Plus)(Sigma)
- Aeon USB Adapter GEN5

I do have some modules that are hard to reach so i'm leaning towards the Aeon Labs again so i can take the stick to the modules.

Price wise the Z-Wave USB stick seems the better choice.
Looking at the the Homeseer 3 comparison chart the Z-wave USB seems to support more functions.
http://www.homeseer.com/compare-z-wave-interfaces.html
So cheaper and more functions.

I have around 15 first gen Duwi modules. one Fibaro module. A door lock and some fibaro motion sensors. Some everspring modules and door sensors. Also a few greenwave sockets.

Anyone have experience with these 2 stick and could give some advise?

Hi I would say go for the UZB stick. It has great reach even when it is on the attic. I can switch Fibaro switches which are located outdoor without any problem. Its small and cheaper than the Z-Stick. I have also a mixture of z-wave brands like you and it works with al of them.

Thank you both for the answers.

One more question though. How do you add devices in hard to reach places?
Laptop with demo HS3 and add them?

Or does the network wide inclusion work for the old zwave as well?

Laptop with old HS Z-Tool or the free (old) Danfoss program. http://up-it.dk/dl/enp/

But I don't think I ever used it or the battery on my old Aeon stick. I add devices at my desktop and then optimize them, when I mount them.

I purchased the UZB stick.

I'll probably just use my laptop.
Thanks!
