Post by Gschartuni »

I want to automate my home, from watering the garden to distributed audio in the bathroom, I mean the whole house. Recommend any specific brand that has the most needs?
Audio and video distributed
Blinds
windows
doors
cameras
security
watered the garden
lighting
garage door

I mean everything. I dont care where I need to travel to get the equipment and learn to use it.

thanks for your suport and opinion.

I would say: there is no single best brand that covers all the areas you are listing.

Example: I am using:
- Old-fashioned X10 to control lighting
- Plugwise to measure energy used and to control equipment and some lighting
- Philips Hue lamps and bridge to control lighting (scenes)
- Milight LED lamps and wifi bridges to control lighting (scenes)
- Nemef ENTR doorlocks to 'automate' and control entrances (not complete yet)
- Mobotix frontdoor intercom and video for security
- RF smoke detectors for security
- Science Oregon climate sensors to measure humidity, temperature, airpressure, UV lighting
- Netatmo climat sensors to measure CO2, temp, humidity, windspeed, rainfal, etc.
- Nefit Easy thermostats to remote control heating and warmwater to the taps
- ITHO ventilation to control air flow and 'freshness'
- RXFCOM transceivers to control several and different of the above RF devices
- Homeseer Pro program and plugins to most the above together as a central management platform
- Windows 10 tablets that act as info/control panels throughout the house via WiFi.

The above approach has its pros and cons of course; Pro is that you do not lock yourself in with one technology or brand from an investment's perspective, con is that you need to understand how this all can work together from a single management platform - for certain brands/devices you have to create additional scripts or programs to make these workable within the management platforms.

Now, if there were one single brand that could do and provide this all, I would be intestered......
