Smart Fuse Box

Post by tickett »

Do these exist? I'm about to have my old fuse box replaced as part of a solar install and wondered if something existed which maybe monitored the power consumption through each of the fuses? Google hasn't found anything helpful.

Thanks!

Well, best i've found so far are DIN mount meters. So you would have to loop out of each fuse and through one of the DIN meters (or possibly the meter should be placed before the fuse). I'd love to find an image of a complete installation but can't for the life of me! Best i've found is a video: http://youtu.be/din-OnErDdc which is an incomplete installation.

CT clamps is an option but from what I understand they're a lot less accurate than pulse meters.

Then i'd need several flukso/openenergymeter/rfxmeter or similar (possibly build my own) to collect and report the data.

I intend to have individual appliance monitors (something like the plugwise circle, alertme smart plug or currentcost iam) attached to a lot of devices anyway... but it would be good to have a breakdown at all levels:

1. Whole House Differential
2a. Usage
2b. PV
3a. Downstairs Mains
3b. Downstairs Lighting
3c. Upstairs Mains
3d. Upstairs Lighting
3e. Oven
4a. Fridge
4b. Washing Machine
4c. TV

You get the idea...

Still lots of research to do! All input appreciated.

They are available for industrial use (I would use it with a SPLIT-CORE CT)

But maybe it is cheaper to use an triple row height fuse box and use the upper row for kwh meter and the middle row for the actual fuses (and the lowest for main switch, earth switches)

And the kwh meters
