HDMI Overlay device

Post by RdP »

Hi does any know a (cheap) HDMI overlay device which can interface with ie. Homeseer. The idea is to display incoming calls, the image of the person who is at the front door or any kind of important information on the TV .

I bought one of these about a year ago after investigating various options http://www.adafruit.com/products/609

Ashamed to say though that it's still sat on the "to-do" shelf at the moment :(

GoogleTV boxes do an overlay / pass-through thing too I believe?

I looked at the NeTV, but I'm not sure it will be the best/right solution. I don't want to buy it and realize it's not exactly what I need (at least not for that price)

Why do you think it will not do what you need?

It's even Opensource so you can adapt is if it's not out of the box perfect?

It is a seriously clever piece of tech., and cheap for what it does...ESP. as HDMI is the devils work!

Do watch out with these HDMI overlay boxes when also passing a console (Ps3/4/xbox/xbone) through them as they add a little bit of latency, which might or might not be a problem depending on how you play...

Apparently I wanted to try this in 2009 already, but never found a decent solution. Thanks for reminding me :-)

Are recent (smart)tv's capable of displaying an overlay message (via http request)?
