Not possible to upgrade firmware

Post by lennard »

Hallo,

I've got he OTGW from the webshop (KIWI) completely soldered with RS232 interface
I connected the supply and the RS232 to my laptop, as soon the power goes on I get the follwing messages, as expected:
-----
Opentherm gateway diagnostics - Version 1.1

1. LED test
2. Bit timing thermostat
3. Bit timing boiler
4. Delay symmetry
5. Voltage levels
6. Idle times

Enter test number: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : :
------

This maybe looks good, but this is all what I get out of it.
First of all, I can't use the diagnostics. Input from keyboard aren't exepted. Nor in OTmonitor or in terminal (Terraterm / hyperterm)

I tried to install the OTGW firmware using OTmonitor.
I can select the *.hex file and press program.
It tries to put the gateway into self-programming mode. After 1-2 sec. I'm asked to reset the module myself.
Then I do this, I get the messaged : "could not put gateway into self-programming mode".

It looks like the communication is ok... no funny characters.
Although, the 20x :::: don't look ok to my.
I don't see anybody in this forum using the OTGW on a "real" RS232 port (oldfashioned fysical build into laptop). Does the gateway work ok with this??

Or does the PIC need any self-programming code that wasn't installed??

Any help is welcome!

There is something wrong with your serial connection. You should be able to enter test numbers. Please check that the cable between the gateway and your PC is good. Also check that the flat cable that connects the RS232 header to the DB9 connector is wired correctly. There are two commonly used methods for wiring such cables. Apparently the web shop sometimes supplies the wrong version.

Hello,

Well thanks for the tip!
The supplied RS232 cable is indeed wrong. Pin configuration on the print side connector is wrong.
Coincidental, the Rx is on the right pin, explaining why I was able to get the prompting from the OTGW.

It's programmed now! thanks!

I'm experiencing this issue also, what should the correct pin layout be?

Never mind, one can just measure using a multimeter (:
