Is this a start to adapt non-opentherm boilers to opentherm?

Post by sandeen »

Trying to wrap my head around what this gateway is and is not...

I have a Triangle Tube (ACV) boiler which has a modbus interface, and can report setpoints, supply/return, set modulation level, etc all via modbus. But it doesn't speak opentherm.

Could the opentherm gateway be the start of an interface to convert non-opentherm boilers to opentherm, by translating to and from their "native language?"

If you can come up with a translation from Opentherm to the "native language" of the boiler, then it may be possible to do this. You should probably take the interface firmware as a starting point, rather than the gateway firmware.

Note that Opentherm doesn't specify a modulation level, but instead uses a control setpoint to regulate the boiler. So the translation may not be straight forward.
