Thermostat not receiving commands from OTGW

Post by aferrato »

Hi,
I have a Beretta METEO GREEN AND 30 C.S.I. boiler and a BeSMART thermostat from Riello, I connected an OTGW bought from Nodo between the two and I can read the messages they exchange.

The problem is that I cannot control the thermostat with the otmonitor, if I send a Setpoint command the thermostat does nothing.

Is there anything I can do to find the problem or does it mean that my thermostat does not accept opentherm commands?

thank you.

Thermostats don't accept commands. They send commands (requests) and receive responses. If a thermostat never sends a request for a setpoint change (MsgID 9), then the OTGW doesn't get an opportunity to send this information on to the thermostat. So, check the summary tab in otmonitor to see if MsgID 9 is listed. Some thermostats have a menu setting to enable this functionality. If neither of these two is available, then this feature won't work with your thermostat.

Most thermostats that can be controlled via an app, like the BeSMART, will not offer this functionality via the OpenTherm interface. Presumably because you can already do it with the app. Which doesn't mean that all thermostats without an accompanying app support it. :(

Thank you for the reply!
I am slowly learning how opentherm works.

this is what I see in the summary tab, there is no MsgID 9:

Code: Select all

Hex	Dec	Dir	Description	Freq	Value
00	0	Read	Status	1	00000000 00000000
01	1	Write	Control setpoint	6	5.00
03	3	Read	Slave configuration	38	00010001 31
05	5	Read	Application-specific flags	2	00000000 0
0B	11	Read	TSP setting	5	241 0
0B	11	Write	TSP setting	5	240 20
0E	14	Write	Maximum relative modulation level	16	100.00
10	16	Write	Room setpoint	38	16.20
11	17	Read	Relative modulation level	19	0.00
12	18	Read	CH water pressure	16	2.50
18	24	Write	Room temperature	38	21.60
19	25	Read	Boiler water temperature	6	55.90
1A	26	Read	DHW temperature	3	34.40
1C	28	Read	Return water temperature	16	38.80
30	48	Read	DHW setpoint boundaries	38	60 35
31	49	Read	Max CH setpoint boundaries	38	80 40
38	56	Read	DHW setpoint	38	46.00
39	57	Read	Max CH water setpoint	38	80.00
78	120	Read	Burner operation hours	20	800
the last page of this manual https://www.vokera.co.uk/wp-content/upl ... Manual.pdf lists the settings that I can change, but I don't see this functionality.

at this point I think there is no way to use this thermostat :( :( .
