I also entered the SSD realm.

I have bought an OCZ 60GB Summit SSD today. Although it doesn't have SLC memory, it's fast thanks to the new Samsung controller.

Placed it into my Shuttle X50 touchscreen, boot time of Ubuntu 9.04 when from 48 seconds to 29 secs. I also added another 2GB of memory for 19 Euro, was surprised to find an empty SO-DIMM slot inside it.

I had simular setting but then with the Intel X25E (the fast one) ssd drive. (fast starting W2K3)
Worked good for a couple of hours then I got read errors system would not start anymore.
After checkdsk it repaired again, but then again the same problem!
I was using this for the Bwired webserver so lots of traffic.

Let us know how it keeps working.

@ron: did you have pictures of its finished/working on a wall mount?

@Erik: I have no wall mount for the shuttle, but I had to remove the stand to open the case, beneath it was a VESA mount layout. It just stands on my bureau for the moment.

The header you see just right from the SO-DIMMS are for an expansion card, in the back of the case are holes provisioned for 3 connectors, unsure which types exactly.

@Pieter: The firmware update for X25-M was famous for fixing a bug that sounds like yours, but don't know if there is an update for the SLC version you have.

You are right: I think I buy another brand. No Firmware for the X25-E yet ?

Then new OCZ Vertex Turbo Series looks also very promising

What is the power consumption when the screen is blank and nothing is running on the shuttle?

@Chak: Good question, normally very easy to answer, but my Plugs are somewhere in one of the 'verhuisdozen' [:o)]

My Domotica installation size has been shrunk from the size of a house, to the size of my desk in the attic, so you can image the mess. (no I won't publish photo's of it) [:I]

There is one annoying issue/bug with the touchscreen and that's the fact that Gambas sometimes crashes when I run my project, I'm trying to catch enough info so it can be fixed.

Ii looks like it has something to do with the new Atom 330's CPU and memory corruption/false allocation, or something like that, because it's very stable on other installs with exact same software, I have replace the memory and disk and it's still there, other apps and os-es are rock solid on this hardware.

@Chak: found my Plugs, and did some tests.

I have only Ubuntu Linux installed, SSD and 3GB memory.

Shuttle Off: 6.3 Watt
Shuttle On: 39.9-41.2 Watt
Shuttle Screen Blanked: 37.8 Watt
Shuttle Screen Off: 31 Watt
(xset dpms force off)

Maybe BIOS and OS can be tweaked some more, this is all with default install.

Thanks for the info.
Consumption is okay if you also run other applications on this machine..like Homeseer
Only for Touch screen It's a bit to much
If I don't had the Macmini this was the machine for me.
