Wireless Self Powered Switches

Post by Niknik »

Just came across an interesting article on Circuit Cellar Issue #209 (December 2007) regarding wireless switches from EnOcean.
http://www.enocean.com/

The "thing" about wireless switches is that they usually require batteries - which, at least for me, are always an annoyance.
EnOcean uses a very interesting concept: the movement you make to "flick" the switch is turned into power and used to transmit to the receiver.

The efficiency and low power requirements of today's electronics make it possible. Really interesting. They also have solar powered sensors, using supercapacitors to work for days without light sources, etc, but I didn't look at those with detail - it was the "wireless powerless switches" that caught my attention. :)
