Have the N36L running for over a year, smaller CPU but mostly the same.

Wanted a full home server, including Apple Filing Protocol, Samba, iTunes server, webserver + database + php, and off course Homeseer (= Windows...)

Tried ESXi - did not have local USB support (does it now?) - so no Homeseer... canned it.

Now have an SSD running Fedora OS + hosting the VMWare images. Running VMWare Player (duh! Workstation isn't free and Server isn't exactly supported). 8GB RAM. 4x 2TB (sw mirrored into 2 2TB drives). Apache and MySQL on Fedora, Windows 7 (2x) in VMWare running Homeseer.
(I have a 2nd Homeseer install running US Freq Z-Wave, polled by the main Homeseer running EU Z-Wave every n seconds)

I cannot get my BT dongle to work with Fedora (for Homeseer presence detection), and Samba isn't up (but I don't have any other Windows device right now), but the rest is running fairly stable.

Oh, put the BIOS mod on it. I did to run the SSD in the 5,25" bay at full speed.

Have fun with it!

I have a N36L for over a year now with esxi.
I have 4 guest running, also Homeseer from the beginning. It is possible to connect USB ports to a virtual Machine!!!
The VM's are stored on a Synology Nas. A backup ESXi server is available, so if the Microserver goes down I only have to power up the backup server and the network is running again.

Nice server! I was just too late to get it for 167,- when inmac had them on discount :(

The 240 euro price is including 4GB ram, and no disk.

There is also a model with 2GB ram, and 250GB disk, for 204 euro. (http://tweakers.net/pricewatch/290417/h ... -n40l.html)

It would depend on how many memory you need and/or already have available.
