Toon black screen
Hi Marcel.
I bought myself a Toon and want to root this. I have update the firmware of the Toon to the latest level.
So I follow the steps you describe in your forum to root the Toon.
I used the serial usb cable a have from the opentherm gateway of Schelte.
I connect the usb-serial cable to the pins on the Toon and put the other side of the cable in my laptop.
Start putty on my laptop, set the serial settings as describe in het forum and connect. Put also the power and the boiler module and this module is also connected to the Toon. I don't see anything happen in the putty terminal screen, only when I do some type, there are characters on the screen.
After this, I disconnect the usb-serial cable form the Toon and close the Toon in his orignal state.
I set the power on the boiler module, connect this to the Toon and also the display of the Toon stays black.
Do you have any idea?

Re: Toon black screen
Advice of Marcel to set Flow Control to None, also give the same results
Re: Toon black screen
Hi cvdpol01,
You have 8, 12 and 14 connected.
It should be 11, 13 and 14
(instead of 14 GND you can use 3 or 5 which also are both GND. I used 5 so all connections are on the same row)
I would suspect that the serial-usb cable has acted as an antenna during part of the process, and maybe altered something it should not?
Also put Flow control = off (or none).
Next step I would suggest is to get serial access working, to get an idea what goes wrong.

Re: Toon black screen
Thanks for reply RomMon,
I change the connects as you said, see photo. Also set flowcontrol of.
The putty terminal don's show anything. When I hit the space, the cursor react.
Do you have other sugestions?

Re: Toon black screen
I'm not familiar with the OTGW supplied cable, but think I saw someone posted a picture using a similar looking cable.
It must be a 3.3volt based serial cable. So double check that.
Guess you swapped Tx and Rx a few times to see the results?
(From the next example I get the NAND chip is the older one, so that should be ok.)

Thanks Rommon,
Hereby the link of the cable

What do you mean with the example?
The same chip are on my Toon.
It looks like the Toon don't start.

Re: Toon black screen
The example is more for a next possible step, ... using JTAG.
The cable you use looks fine.
Indeed there looks to be an issue causing both serial not to work, and the black screen.
Have you verified that the supplied power is ok?
(don't remember the voltage levels anymore, but something like 24V DC, and should at least be able to supply 500mA?)
Edit: adapter is a 24v DC 0.5A (model DSA-15P-24 EU)

Re: Toon black screen
Hi Rommon,
Indeed, when I measure the voltage of the power supply, the output of the boiler module, thats 24V, not connected to the Toon motherboard.
But when I put the powersupply on the Toon, then the voltage is 3V. Is this allright?

Re: Toon black screen
3V is way too low.
Toon typically needs 24V, 0.5A (at boot) and 24V, approximately 0.2A in the long run (~5W power uptake).
So, check your power supply (any 24VDC power supply will do, for testing, polarity is not important).
@RomMon:
The NAND chip is not that old. Earlier types didn't have a Quby/Prodrive product number on them (and had a slightly different filesystem/flash layout).

Re: Toon black screen
Yes, I think it is the adapter of the boiler module.
I put an other adapter from 12V and 1,5A on the boiler module and now I get 12V on the pins of the Toon.
I quickly remove them for damage. So now I'm searching for an adapter of 12V and 0.5A, but where can I found this

This one:

Checkout plug dimensions and polarity first, though ...
Oh, and you will need 24VDC, 0.5 A, not 12VDC.

Re: Toon black screen
Thanks Marcel, I ordered this one. Hopefully it come soon.
Re: Toon black screen
So back from a week holiday. The new adapter is also arrived.
I test this new adaptor also on the Toon, but the same result as with the orignal adaptor. What could this be?

Re: Toon black screen
Doesn't look good.
Can you somehow connect the power supply directly to toon (without the boiler module in between)? Polarity is not important.
This would bypass the boiler module, so when that's at fault, toon should boot normally.

I bypass the boiler module and connect the power on the Toon. The voltages is 24V, but the display is still black and in putty I see the same results as earlier post in this post
