Repository - Sample Images of Cameras
Strolling the forum today came the idea that we should have a (sticky?)repository for (web)cams and their picture quality. As far as I know we don't have one yet.
How would it work? Well anybody that has/gets/tries a new camera posts a couple of shots made with it in here.
At least the following is needed:
1. Brand+Model
2. A couple of captures (preferably day/night etc)
If possible, don't resize the images as that'll allow everybody to better evaluate the picture quality. (if you do resize please mention it)
I think this type of information would be valuable to have collected in one place.
Of course if you have the time or inclination you are welcome to add more information about the cam. (like for example your pro's and con's etc)
Ciao,
Esteban

-With a ring of IR LEDs around it and a case with fixing plate. Resembles the AVIOSYS 9060 that can be found higher up here a little.
You can find it at construction shops and officecenter/Makro etc.
Costs about 149 but that was a while ago.
It has no motion detection but can FTP and email onschedule.
NL:

Comments:
-IP camera for inside use that works fine during the day but turns to blackness during the night. Price new around 250 euro but can often be had on Marktplaats and Ebay for half that.
It has a good motion detection with windows to select included or excluded area's. Stream can be send via FTP or email.
It als has a pre-motion buffer to capture the action before the trigger. for example, the trigger is motion in the frame because someone opens the door. If you set the pre buffer to 3 secs you will see the door closed, opening and then the person appearing.
It helps, when you set the sensitivy low, to still see a full motion when fully triggered.
Motion detection adjustement by sensitivty, history in the frame and object size.
It also has an input and an output which can be configured. Like you can start recording with a trigger on the input and sound an alarm with the output when a motion is detected.

Note regarding the AXIS motion detection:
Most false triggers come from the autogain adjustment. When it gets light, the AGC corrects in steps and the motion detection can not handle them. Ergo between 6-9 in the morning I have several false alarms.
You would never notice it unless you have the pre-buffer running.
I set it to 3 seconds and on all clips you see the images jump luminance after 3 secs.

- It has 48 IR LEDs
- You can use it indoor and outdoor.
Specs:
http://www.waakzaamwonen.com/pdf/hcd82484x.pdf
The images are from an Axis 241Q Video server with compression set to 30 (0 is no compression / 100 is max compression)
Day shot (Here camera is mounted inside, behind a window!):
Sunset in Australia (Here camera is mounted inside, behind a window!):
And an IR nightshot (Here camera is mounted inside, behind a window!):
I did the cam setup specially for this topic, and as mentioned before it's behind a window (indoor).
Problem is (as you can see) that the windows are reflecting the IR light.
I'll try to do an other setup (outside) tomorrow.
In the next shots the camera is mounted directly outside.
A dayttime shot (camera mounted outside):
A nighttime shot (camera mounted outside) What you see is not dust but the LEDs reflecting in the camera's glass cover. Probably due to the Auto Gain Control(AGC) turning the gain so high that the LEDs' reflection become visible and the image becomes more noisy:
A different nightshot taken inside. Please note that the room is completely dark!:

Repository - Sample Images of Cameras
We use a range of Axis cameras in our building, so I've included the best shot from each different type below. Most of our cameras will go up to megapixel resolution, but I've posted the closest to 800x600 each camera will produce so as not to take up too much space. I'll update this post over the weekend to show you the low light capabilities of each camera.
Axis 211M
Comments:
-This is the camera model we use most. The camera can run on PoE which makes it easy to install, and the standard lens' zoom range makes it great for all sorts of applications.
-There are two versions, an older one with a 'Pentax' lens and newer one with a 'Mega Pixel Tamron' lens. The Tamron is supposed to improve the image quality.
Manual:

More information:

Axis 212
Comments:
-This is a dome camera with pesudo-ptz functionality. Again, this is a PoE camera. There are a few irritations with this camera, firstly the lack of built-in 90-degree rotation (see image), and secondly the low light ability is disapointing. In fact, we have another of these cameras in the same stairwell and at the time this image was captured it had changed to low-light mode because of the light level(!).

Axis 214PTZ
Comments:
-This is a full PTZ camera. Generally it's pretty good and has good low-light capabilities. It does not have PoE capabilities. The only criticism I have is the noise it makes when it moves -- it's certainly not an ideal choice if you want to follow people around without them knowing about it!

Axis 223M
Comments:
-The top of the range fixed Axis camera, with PoE. A very good picture right up to the full megapixel resolution. We do have an issue with ours where we lose contact with it, but I'm not sure if this is down to the camera or down to the network link out to it -- it's on a very long PoE line. The patch on top right hand corner of these images is the sun shield of the Verso housing this camera is mounted in, I need to get up there and shift the camera to the left a little.

More information:

Axis 233D
Comments:
-This is a full PTZ dome camera. It has continuous 360-degree rotation and, unlike the 214PTZ, is designed to be moving constantly (guard patrol). The PTZ functionality it very quick and very quiet and the optical zoom is fantastic (see a fully zoomed in version of the above image). Sadly the digital zoom leaves a little to be desired. All this doesn't come cheap however -- our cameras cost us around 2,500GBP each. These cameras also cannot operatate on PoE, so are a little more work to install (although this is not really a consideration when installing in the external housings due to their additional power requirements).

The image below is from a camera mounted in the T95A housing with smoked dome, and the marks on the right are a cobweb catching the sun! Our setup is very similar to the one mentioned in Pieter's recent blog post, but mounted on the corner of the building (more images of the cameras before install and while being installed).
