Verbruik in idle 13 watt. HD van de macmini is traag voor Vmware..heb wel een SSD nodig (bv. X25 van intel 80 Gb 350 euro)
Ik kwam de volgende machine van Acer tegen met voldoende power..geen idee wat verbruik is.
ACER VERITON X270 (PS.X27C1.B03) INTEL C2D E7300-2.66 GHZ 2GB

I'm searching for a little bit more GREEN power as well.
I have now running the ATOM330 dual core, its OK for single server. But I doubt the performance if you run VM. In the "Computertotaal" recently the was a report about green PC's the HP did very well. Cant find the article anymore
BTW: please lets try to keep it English as much as possible

Hey guys keep in mind that you get the right processor for running virtualized OS. An ATOM will not support it and VM's wil be very slow, If you get ESX or Hyper-V with a good Intel 64bit proecessor (Intel-VT or AMD-V) versions it will run much better. Those proeessors support virtualisation and allow for much directer access to their functions from the hypervisor.
Nieuwe server
You're saying that the ATOM does not support specific VM-related features? Isn't everything running on windows in this design, and that runs VMWare sever? Is this ATOM specific or does this apply to all windows based (VMware server 2.0) deployments?
(apart from the fact that ofcourse ESX/Hyper-V will do things a lot better, mainly because of the OS)

@Chak: I always thought money was not an issue for you;-) I would invest in the Mac Mini instead of buying a cheaper tradeoff en come to the conclusion this tradeoff does not work for you so you have to by another one.

Conclusion of Bastiaan is correct.
You will have much better performance if there is visualization support on the CPU.
My biggest concern on the mac mini is support for Windows
Yes Mac can run Windows..but still some special installation steps to optimize.
example.Acronis Trueimage will not run.
When starting with the standard disk and later converting to ssd means new installation of the Host OS.

I've started over agian as well. A couple of month ago I bought an Acer Altos G330MKII server to setup my Small Business Server. Last weekend I killed the SBS and rebuild the server with Win XP Pro and VMWare Server2. It's now running perfectly with virtual Windows Home Server and 2 Win XP virtualisations in which I want to run HS and Plugwise.
The server uses 60W in idle, it would take much too long to earn back the investment of new hardware. I think that 60W is whitin reason, considering that the server has already been part of my total usage and is being used much better now.

@Dick Acer 330 is based on E2220?
How is the performance of this CPU when running more machines in Vmware, better then Asus eee with single machine?
For 60 watt usage is the intel e8400 also okay.

I need to check the exact type at home, there are several options. It's a dual-core processor and is performing better than the Asus EEE which was somewhat overoccupied at times.

@Bastiaan VM ware fusion works well on my Imac.
main reason for Vmware server is the remote management possibilities Fusion is a desktop product.
And I need Windows on the Host OS for connecting my touch screen for HSTtouch.
@Lorenzo the I think the new Nvidia platform is much better then the current 945 from Intel.
This platform will not solve my performance problem. I just need more power to run Vmware.
Atom CPU is okay for basic task and mini laptops but not when you want Vmware are other desktop applications.
But for sure for only Homeseer it can be hit.

I have the new Mac Mini.
OSX is installed and working fine..I have never seen a system that is so quick booting.
CPU Intel Dual core 2.0Ghz
memory 4 GB
Harddisk Intel X25-M 80 GB
Power consumption when Idle 12,5 watt
Windows Installation is not working..it cost me few hours to find out what the problem is.
It will not install on Intel SSD...grrrrrr

I need to upgrade the firmware first...this will also not work in the Mac mini..
need to remove it ...(this is not a easy job on a mac mini

How about the bare metal Xen install, I think the new Mac mini's have good enough hardware for that.
I haven't worked with the new 64-bit Xen install yet, but I still use the 32-bit version without any trouble. Snapshots and stuff is a breeze with Xen.
