Proliphix NT20e IP Thermostat

For those who have missed earlier posts on this and therefore haven't read my blog yet, you should first read these to get the full picture:

This morning, when i got out of bed, i knew i had a job to do: my Home Automation system was going to be extended with the Proliphix NT20 Thermostat. [8D]
All worked well last night with the thermostat on my desk in the office, so drilling a few holes and placing the NT20 in the living room wouldn't take more then a couple of hours.

However, one little detail took me a couple of hours more then i expected.
This detail was the fact that a Remeha Calenta with an outside temperature sensor doesn't react on on/off thermostats... it took me some time to figure this out [:(]

Once i found out what was going wrong, the NT20 was mounted very easily.

Next thing to do was creating a kind of 'demonstration' that it all worked. I chose the touchscreen in the living room to be the first GUI to get the new feature of changing the thermostat set point. The touchscreen is 30 cm away from the thermostat, but who cares [:D]
I created a screen with a "+" and "-" button like this:

When a button is pressed, the numeric value in the middle that represents the new desired thermostat setpoint, gets a different color:

When neither the "+" or "-" are pressed for a period of 3 seconds, the numeric value returns to its previous color and the current value is sent to my Domotica system, which takes care of posting the new value of the set-point to the thermostat.

My conclusion so far about this Proliphix thermostat: the greatest thermostat I've ever seen.

But this is not the end of the story, there's still a lot to be done; I'll keep you posted!

Today i created the beginning of a page that will show real-time information about the Proliphix thermostat i started using yesterday. Although not finished yet, it displays some status information and will be extended with several charts to see all you ever wanted to know. But for that, i have to wait a while to have some data to work with. http://www.hekkers.net/domotica/Thermostat.aspx

One last addition for today: i noticed that there is a Homeseer Plugin for the Proliphix thermostats.

yes, but the homeseer plugin.. i checked it out.. its only in fahrenheit.. no celcius.

Also, if you get the iphone app. The version that is out now only works with english language. So if you have your phone in dutch language it will fail to work.

I didn't know that. And it's so easy to implement Celsius support..believe me, i know [:D]

i know it must be easy to fix, but it should come by default via homeseer, i posted a question about this on the forum..

and my house still heats up..

i just dont get it.. playing now with the types of hvac's see what that does .. must have a winner somewhere..

Erik,

I've got my type seat to heat only and system type = fuel burner:

Do some testing: attach a multimeter to the thermostat on connections RH and W1. Play with the thermostat set point. Increase it and you should hear the relay and see resistance measured by multimeter dropping to 0. Now lower the set point and you should see resistance go to infinite.
If you observe this, the thermostat is working properly.

i found out i had "override" on, testing again, although when i increased temperature i did hear the click again strangly enough.. anyways, i'll just play with it a bit, and in the end take out the multimeter

so if i wake up in a sauna again tomorrow.. then it didn't work hehe..

at this moment, in status control it does say:

Zone Temperature 22.0C
Override
Heat Setting 15.0C C
Hold Mode Off

HVAC Settings
HVAC State Off
HVAC Mode Heat
Fan Mode Auto

so that should be the thing it should be on, i set it to 15 degrees.. so it should do nothing

You should not forget that if you have your floor heating as main heating and the pipes are layered close together, you have a real big heat source.
So if you're thermo is on 21 it takes your floor a lot of time to get there, and if its there then the heating Will shut off.
But your floor is getting up to speed and giving a lot off extra heat and lifting the temp 25

Also depends on how hot the water is you pump in your floorheating.

And also check your shedule it will be picked up after overide!

hmm, sauna again.. and its still at 15 degrees.. even turned of hvac mode to off.. no go. gues i'll have to start multimetering.. i'am just unlucky..

yes, i did. I actually let the floors cool down so that for the touch of my hand you could feel that the floor was "cold" then attached the thermostate.. and it start to heat up.. (and when i test at that moment, when i raise the temperature, i can hear the "click") but i dont even raise the temperature, i set it to 15.. while it says it 21 for instance.. i did what digit said to connect it up to those 2.. i think i just have some weird other system.. that strange remaha thing just works.

OK does your system has a potential free connection.
I thought you had central town heating?
