Laundry room + Servers

Hi all..

Question, i'am going to use the storage room / washing room to also place my 19 inch cabinet in. The main door will be 42 decibel reduction, so i wont hear much

My only problem is, i should get a "condense" dryer, and a normal washing machine. If i get descent machines for this (miele?) are there any problems with heath or humidity which i have to take into account?

The condense dryer has its own "water exit" same for the washing machien. So in theory it should be ok right? (and if its bad, i could always keep the door open while washing/drying)

X marks the spot for the 19inch cabinet, the other are dryer/washer.

With a fairly new condense dryer there should not be a problem i guess.

1 month ago we bought a new dryer (AEG Lavatherm 59840) with heatpump for extra efficiency, and it's really working. Temperature rising while dryer is working is much less then before, same for humidity. You hardly notice the dryer anymore, only by its noise.

Good, nice to know.. since all the other "non geeky" persons at work all say "too much humidity" which i though would be b.s. if you get a good one.

Best advice i think is to go for a Energy-label "A" machine, since that should be the ones leaking energy (heat) the least.

Hi Erik,

We also have a separate room in our house that contains the washing machine, drying machine and the central heating device (CV-ketel).

Because I also wanted to use the room to put the (heat and humidity sensitive) inverters for our solar panels into, I've been monitoring temperature and humidity for some time now using an RFXCom sensor.

Temperature in the room is quite stable, despite the heat generating equipment: the temperature will rise a few degrees when the drying machine is on, but not more than that, and humidity will increase with approx. 10%, ranging between 50 and 60%.

The room is mechanically ventilated; I guess that helps to keep things stable (and I could always use the HA system to set the ventilation to maximum if needed).

Given the positive results, the solar inverters are now in this room and I might put all the noisy home automation equipment into this room as well (indeed, preferably in a 19" rack).

BTW What 19" cabinet are you using? Any affordable solutions around?

On thing is for sure that you have to clean you're server more the usual. All the dust is going through your machines, and there is lots of cloth dust in the room. I have the same problem, and my office is beside the Washing room.

Do you also have a 19inch cabinet or similar? This would keep out some more dust right?

How would the cabinet make any difference?
You will still need to transport the same amount of air through the servers (and cabinet) as before to keep the servers cool.
You can ease this problem by sealing your cabinet and setting filters in the air-passages, but then you must monitor your temperature so that it doesn't rise to much when you forget to clean those filters.

That is the right approach I guess. Don't under estimate the amount of fine dust coming from a wash dryer it's really much. Cleaning more solves this problem I guess.

So how do i automate the cleaning then?

No.. i will do as dowser said, just make a "fine filter" which will be fine. Only a few machines will be there with normal space in between. The room itself doesn't have any heating so it should stay fairly "cold" in that room. (i can always measure it ofcourse)
