How to turn off PC's when leaving the house with Xanura/X10?
Hello,
I have automated almost all my lighting in the house with Xanura modules. So I created an "HOME" and "AWAY" scene to switch off al lights when leaving the house and turn on some lights when I come home. My problem is that I want to turn my HIFI and TV set on and off also. But because I have Media-Center I can't just place an Appliance module.
Is there an easy way to turn ON and OFF a PC automated when leaving the house? I realy don't want PC's turned on when away because of useless Energy Costs. I was thinking about software detecting that de TV connected with DVI was switching of (I can do that with an Appliance Module). But I can't find anything on the internet about switching off PC's with domotica [V] !
Awaiting some clever idea's [|)] !

In Homeseer you can also run shutdown application for remote shutdown
For you IR devices you can use IR
I'm using Irtrans for this option.
Checking the status can be done via power consumption when using plugwise
For the network devices you can use network monitoring tools in Homeseer

If you somehow can activate a script.
From a command prompt: Shutdown -s or from a remote computer (your domotica system?) shutdown -m \\computername

Mmhh... I have installed my CM15 in the cupboard.
It gave the best signal quality to reach of devices.
So it's not permantly connected to my PC. But using
ActiveHome could do the trick. I already thought about
connecting it over ethernet. But USB to ethernet is quite
expense for the job it does.
But I have some more ideas...

What do you mean with:
OFF: execute a program > shutdown after 1 minute send x10 off

I also read that just connect an RJ45 jack to an USB cable should
work up to 25 meters?! Worth trying, just cut two old cables!
And in de scenario make a timer long enought for de PC to shut down
and then turn OFF the actor.
That should be it !

I bought a Belkin USB network hub.
Works great. according to the specs it should be able to attach max 15 devices.
This is what i connected to the hub:
- Plugwise USB Stick,
- USB Cardflash reader,
- USB Webcam,
- USB Stick 2 Gb.
Price isn't that high:

To property turn off the computer you have to shutdown windows first. So first i execute the shutdown command. And after 1 minute i send a x10 off command to power off the computer.
In my bios i enabled "power on after powerfailure", so when i send x10 on, my computer gets power and automatically turns on.

If i'm not mistaken you can perform a remote shutdown on any Windows machine (Maybe not Home or Basic editions, but certainly Pro versions). See the 'shutdown' help:
Start > Run > cmd [enter}
shutdown /h
Should be something like
shutdown /m \\computername /s
Also see: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/317371" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
