Advise needed on X10 devices

Post by Jeroen Bartels »

I'm planning on buying some X10 devices from an ebay shop. They are quite cheap (I like cheap ;-) so I'm looking for some aditional gadgets.
What is the benefit af a MS10A versus MS16A (I already have many MS16A's)
What is the benefit of a KR10A keychain remote compared to a KR19A.
Are these devices more secure compared to the others?

Advise needed on X10 devices

The X10 'A' devices use RF around 310MHz which is in the EU harmonised military band. http://www.erodocdb.dk/Docs/doc98/Offic ... REP025.pdf.
Though they are low power and short range, they <i>might</i> be illegal to use. And perhaps a nearby airbase could jam your receiver...[:)]

But yes, an MS10 does use the 'secure' version of X10RF, so you might need something extra to receive it

Hi there,
I am from Portugal and like you I also like cheap X10 devices! Could you tell me what is the ebay store you are buying from?

Please keep in mind that the cheaper (white label) X10 modules often have a limited feature set compared to (for example) Xanura modules. I've looked at the X10 whitelabel in-wall micromodules from 'Elekhomica' (http://www.elekhomica.nl" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) but they lack some features like local dimming (the lamp can then only be dimmed using X10 commands). Also, some modules might be 1-way.

Might not be a problem for you, but be aware of the differences!

Don't you pay taxes for stuff coming from extra-Ue countries? If it is like in Italy, you can even pay more than european stuff itself.
