Post by RDNZL »

Charmed Quark is closing shop after eight years, offering its robust CQC home automation software and a rabid fan base to the open-source community.

maybe a homeseer competitor.. but like cqc i think homeseer is also a company that tries to keep its head up and survive.

Props to them for open sourcing it, it has quite a large group of enthousiastic users. Would have been a shame to have that die off (like happened to xlobby...)

Although i wouldn't exactly compare it to HS, CQC is more oriented towards home theater stuff.

The original post has been updated, it will not become open-source after all... a different path is taken... the code will be opened up for software developers only.

Maybe I quoted it wrong, in the post it says:
We will not open source the product
Those of this group that are software engineers will have access to the code and so it will 'open up' in that way, with more people working on it, and moving away from the sole dependence on me.
open up is between '', so I guess they have to agree to an NDA of some sort...

now it sounds more like "But people with too much time can help me make it better so i can sell more" ?

o well, i'll stick to homeseer for now.. would be nice if they open sourced it too.. they need more developers too :)

Mmm yup, that's not what you'd call really open, too bad. Ah well, at least development is going further, which is still a good thing for its users...
